pelfed 5 Posted May 16, 2019 Posted May 16, 2019 Long term user of Media Browser / Emby. I have an issue where when I add a tv series (in this case "Chernobyl") to my TV-series folder, emby cannot find idenity it. So I go into metadata manager and click on "Chernobyl", click on the 3 dots, but there is no "Indentify" in the drop down? There is also no field option "External Id's" for theTVDB where I can manually enter thetvdb ID.
Luke 42083 Posted May 16, 2019 Posted May 16, 2019 Hi, this means the series folder was not detected as a series. What is the series folder structure?
pelfed 5 Posted May 16, 2019 Author Posted May 16, 2019 Thats the issue - Its not being Identified and there is no way to enter the info required manually which I'm sure in previous version I could always do. The structure is as per the wiki.
pelfed 5 Posted May 16, 2019 Author Posted May 16, 2019 TV Series ------ TV Series name (year if needed) ------------ Season X
Luke 42083 Posted May 16, 2019 Posted May 16, 2019 Hi there, I'm happy to help but i'll need you to provide more detail. Can you give an exact example? How have you setup the library in Emby library setup? Did you run a library scan?
pelfed 5 Posted May 16, 2019 Author Posted May 16, 2019 Not sure an exact example is going to resolve the issue as pretty much explained it. My Library is fine and all working (its over 5 years old). New TV series that are added normally work okay. The issue isn't with the Library, its the interface not showing the "identity" link for unknown tv shows. The only way I have managed to get it working is to rename the subdirectory by appending in the tvdb id, run the scan and it works. Then I just went back and renamed the subdir to original. The issue, like i have said, is that unknown tv shows appear in metadata manager, but the is NO option to add in the tvdb id or clicking on the 3 dots doesn't have the "identity" link.
Happy2Play 9783 Posted May 16, 2019 Posted May 16, 2019 From a folder standpoint you can not create a Series folder (empty) and have Emby identify it. But you put a Season x folder it that series folder it will. Emby does not know what to do with a empty folder as it could be a nested folder or a actual Series folder.

That's not actually quite true - I have had emby auto identify and even create the Season X folder on many tv series.
Happy2Play 9783 Posted May 16, 2019 Posted May 16, 2019 Using your example "Chernobyl". It will not be identifiable as a folder, because it could be a nested folder or a actual Series folder. But as soon as I add "Season 1" folder within it, Emby automatically identified the series.

Happy2Play 9783 Posted May 16, 2019 Posted May 16, 2019 (edited) Indeed - however, why doesn't the identify option appear? Because Emby does not know what this empty folder is. Even though it may be in a TV Shows library it does not know if "it is a nested folder or a actual Series folder". So from a Empty folder standpoint it is unidentifiable. Probably part of the "Improve series folder detection" added in 4.1. So Emby needs a option to generate/add a New Series. Edited May 16, 2019 by Happy2Play

Luke 42083 Posted May 17, 2019 Posted May 17, 2019 It either needs to have a season folder, or an episode file underneath.
