spuleckip 1 Posted May 14, 2019 Posted May 14, 2019 I've been running Emby on a slightly upgraded 'spare pc' for about 6 months and it's been great. In that time, I've added a separate 128 GB SSD just for Emby Cache and Transcoding uses. This has helped performance. Over the coming weekend, I'll be migrating to a new dedicated box (Win 10 Pro) that has a beefier i7 with 6 cores and 12 threads and I'll have 1 SSD for the OS, 1 SSD for cache/transcoding and a 4 TB (maybe larger?) 7200 traditional hard drive for my media. Since I'll be doing a fresh install of Emby, I'm looking for any recommendations. Things like where to install (OS disk, cache/transcoding disk, something else?) where to put the Emby database (if that's even an option) or anything in general. If it makes a difference, I have both local media and live tv (combo of HDHomeRun and m3u) and a couple of occasional remote users who primarily use the live tv. Thanks in advance for anything you can recommend. I can't wait to get Emby up and running on this box.
Luke 42080 Posted May 14, 2019 Posted May 14, 2019 Hi, why not start with defaults and then just customize your cache folder with your SSD?
spuleckip 1 Posted May 14, 2019 Author Posted May 14, 2019 That’s more than likely what I will do, and keep the config I use today, but I *thought* I read someplace (that I couldn’t find today) that there was a performance benefit to having the Emby database (SQLite) on a different drive than the OS (or possibly just on a ssd) and that it wasn’t possible to move them after the install. I’m could be (probably) just remembering wrong.
