Pog22 52 Posted April 30, 2019 Posted April 30, 2019 I'm running the latest v4.1.1.0 in docker and am not sure exactly how far the new changes you've been implementing separating local and connect users has got to. Is there any way to force some of my users to do a password reset. Some of them are family members using Emby connect who I know are using the same simple password (the dogs name). How can I force them reset or change it?
Pog22 52 Posted May 1, 2019 Author Posted May 1, 2019 Bump? Is this possible in the latest beta versions?
Happy2Play 9785 Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 There is no option to force users to reset/change passwords local or connect. I believe this would require a feature request.
Sammy 790 Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 If they won't comply with your request to change their password kill their account and then they will be more compliant next time. Sent from my SM-G960U1 using Tapatalk 1
Carlo 4561 Posted May 2, 2019 Posted May 2, 2019 What I've done to a couple of users in the past who didn't do as I asked was to change it for them. This#Is*Your&New^Password#Next%Time(Change)It-When+I#Ask@You2 Give them something ridiculous and then tell them to PM you different password to set or they can login with the password you just set and change it themselves. Add a bit a pain for them and you'll get a more cooperative user next time you ask them to do something. Remember it's YOUR SYSTEM and they are YOUR GUEST. Don't subject your system to being easy to "hack" because you have a LAZY user. Motivate them. 1

Carlo 4561 Posted May 2, 2019 Posted May 2, 2019 Yes but as they're Emby connect users I cannot change their password That's a valid response. Let me ask you this. Do you have a domain name or DDNS name to access your system? Do you have SSL enabled in Emby? Is there a reason the user needs to use Emby Connect vs connecting directly to your system without the middle man? Obviously what I'm getting at is you could force them (if you are setup properly) to connect directly to your system where you control everything.

Yes, I have a domain name, SSL enabled and am using reverse proxy and Cloudflare You do not take into account the stupidity of my techno-retarded users (family) who will just ring me to ask me to call round to hold their hand on a difficult hurdle like this one Emby Connect has been a godsend in this regard
Carlo 4561 Posted May 2, 2019 Posted May 2, 2019 Don't underestimate the "techno-retarded" use by other Emby admin's members. LOL I used to run Plex as my main media server and you have no choice but to go through their login servers which was always a <pain>. <-- substitute favorite word there. When I started moving people over to Emby years ago I got away from the "middle man" on my system and forced users to login directly to my system. It's a pain to due but worth it in the end as you have complete control over the user this way. BTW, keep in mind, with Emby you can "migrate" users at your own pace. You could do 1 user a week for example. Just something to think about.
