mskenny 8 Posted April 29, 2019 Posted April 29, 2019 I'm having an issue where some live TV channels play and others do not. I made sure I was updated to the latest Emby Server, rebooted the computer, restarted the service, and even power cycled my HDHomeRun. I'm attaching the latest server logs. Thanks. mskenny 8 Posted April 30, 2019 Author Posted April 30, 2019 I'm using a browser. I've tried Chrome, Firefox, and Edge and I get the same problem, on both Mac and Windows 10. The channels that fail all fail on any browser. The spinning wheel comes up, disappears, and then there's nothing. Thanks.
mskenny 8 Posted May 2, 2019 Author Posted May 2, 2019 Hi, I haven't heard back but I'm still experiencing this issue. I do find it is working better on Microsoft Edge on a Windows 10 computer. On my iMac with OS 10.13 in both Chrome and Firefox, I can get the live TV stream to come up but it suddenly disappears within a minute or two. Here are more logs. Melissa embylogs20190502.zip
mskenny 8 Posted May 2, 2019 Author Posted May 2, 2019 Just for further information, I gave up watching on Edge because it was frequently (every 10 minutes or so) stopping playing. Sometimes the sound would resume but no video. I tried watching through Emby Theater for awhile as well but that was also stopping the stream. I've attached some more logs. Thank you. embylogs20190502_2.zip
Luke 42081 Posted May 3, 2019 Posted May 3, 2019 Can you try lowering the in-app quality setting to force a full transcode? Please see how that compares. Thanks.
mskenny 8 Posted May 3, 2019 Author Posted May 3, 2019 I just went to play a known problem channel (Willow) and as the screen just goes completely blank (after a few spins of the wheel) I don't get the control to change the quality. I started another channel (We) which did work. However, after 3 or 4 minutes it went blank. The controls were still available, however, so I changed the quality from auto (which was running on 1080p-60 Mbps) to 1080p-30 Mbps. This worked and held stable for about 45 minutes. Then I went back to Willow. It started to play this time at 1080p-30 Mbps but soon went blank. As the controls were available I went to 1080p-15 Mbps. That worked for a few minutes but stopped after a few minutes. At that point, I kept reducing the quality until it still failed at 720p-2 Mbps. I am at home today and was using a MacBook Pro running OS X 10.11.6 and the latest Chrome. I'm on a AC 1900 wireless point that's in the same room as the MacBook. When I look at transcoding settings under "Advanced" it shows no hardware transcoders. I don't know if there's a setting there I should try. I'm attaching the latest logs. Sorry if I'm overloading on those but I thought they might be useful. Melissa embylogs20190503.zip
Luke 42081 Posted May 3, 2019 Posted May 3, 2019 Can you try lowering the quality setting in the video player and see if that helps? Thanks.
mskenny 8 Posted May 4, 2019 Author Posted May 4, 2019 Did I not do that, as described above? If there's another setting, please advise me where to look. Thanks. Melissa
mskenny 8 Posted May 6, 2019 Author Posted May 6, 2019 I've tried lowering the quality setting in the user settings before playing. Then I can get a channel to open but it still stops shortly afterward. I don't seem to get this problem on a Windows PC running Windows 10 with Microsoft Edge. I do on Macs running Chrome or Firefox. Melissa
mskenny 8 Posted May 9, 2019 Author Posted May 9, 2019 I won't upload any more logs unless you request it. Microsoft Edge is still the only reliable way to play live TV. I tried Safari on Mac yesterday and it worked for awhile but eventually the video stopped. I'd like some suggestions on how to get this working again. I was reluctant to upgrade to version 4 as the 3.x version was reasonably stable. Is there a reason to think the beta version would be better? Is there possibly a plug-in I should try removing? I am a premier customer, so you know. Thanks. Melissa
mskenny 8 Posted May 21, 2019 Author Posted May 21, 2019 I tried at home yesterday and was able to watch for quite a few hours on a Mac running Chrome without issue. This was on my home network. Today, on a Mac in my office (over the Internet) in either Chrome 74.0.3729.157 or in Firefox 67.0, some channels play but stop after a minute or so, and some eventually show a scrub bar with a timer counting up but no picture. In the latter case if you leave it go it will eventually return to the home page. So, yes, this is still happening and I'd love an explanation. I still have few problems running on Microsoft Edge 44.17763.1.0. The service does occasionally need to be restarted as it hangs but once you do that it works again. Of course, this is also a problem but a lesser one. Thank you. Melissa
mskenny 8 Posted May 23, 2019 Author Posted May 23, 2019 A further update. I ran into the the problem at home today using Chrome on a Mac again. I was able to get the stream to restart by changing the quality setitng again. It stopped again eventually. Then I tried Chrome on Windows 10 and had the same problem. It does seem to be browser related. I will provide more data if it is useful. Perhaps Fiddler data would help?
mskenny 8 Posted June 17, 2019 Author Posted June 17, 2019 Yes, this is still happening. It's a repeatable issue and I'm getting frustrated that it's not being investigated. Melissa
Luke 42081 Posted June 26, 2019 Posted June 26, 2019 Unrelated; Please use the plugin catalog to install the latest compatible version of the Cover Art plugin. This will greatly reduce the number of errors in your server log. I notice in this log you're playing over https. Does this also happen over http in your local network?
