ferds 0 Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 Hello guys, My problem is: I have Emby running on my PC and I can stream normally to my phone, but when I try to stream to my laptop the videos are unwatchable because of long bufferings and chops. I already tried to disable the firewall on both devices but that didn't work. I tried to run Emby on my laptop and stream to my PC to test it and it works fine. Does anybody knows what might be the issue? P.S.: All the devices are in the same network. Thanks!
denz 501 Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 It sounds like a networking issue on the laptop . Did you try to disable anti virus scanner to test? What version of windows ? Are you trying to watch it through a web browser or are using emby theatre ?
arche 177 Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 As @@denz said, plus the devs will want a server log. https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/739-how-to-report-a-problem/

Are you trying to watch it through a web browser or are using emby theatre ? Yes, anti virus programs are disable on both the host and client devices. I am running windows 10 Pro on the host and Windows 10 Home on the client and trying through a web browser. Log files are attached. ffmpeg-directstream-4cd68849-d175-411b-a2a3-0fffd368c7cf_1.txt embyserver.txt
denz 501 Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 (edited) Can you try installing Emby theatre from the website just to test and go to server and can you disable hardware acceleration if it is on. Another item to try is disable subtitles. Edited April 29, 2019 by denz
ferds 0 Posted April 30, 2019 Author Posted April 30, 2019 I tried those things but none of them worked I think it's a network problem since this started happening when I moved into my new house an got a new internet plan. Any thoughts on what could it be?
Happy2Play 9780 Posted April 30, 2019 Posted April 30, 2019 Is this a wired or wireless connection on the laptop? What Browser? It would appear you are streaming on your LAN, so it shouldn't be your new internet plan. Have you tried lowering the in app playback quality? But I wouldn't think a 5Mb file would have any issues on your LAN. HWA won't matter since the file is remuxed to a different container. Stream mapping: Stream #0:0 -> #0:0 (copy) Stream #0:1 -> #0:1 (copy) Stream #0:2 -> #1:0 (subrip (srt) -> webvtt (native))
ferds 0 Posted April 30, 2019 Author Posted April 30, 2019 I'm using Firefox on the laptop and wifi on both devices. Even when I tried to lower the quality to 4Mbps there's still a LOT of buffering. The reason that I said that think i'ts a network problem is because I'm now using the modem/router provided by my ISP (sorry, forgot to mention) and in my old house it used to work fine.
denz 501 Posted April 30, 2019 Posted April 30, 2019 What about when you watch high quality youtube videos is there buffering then ? It doesn't make sense if it was wifi issue that you can stream to your phone with no issue but on the laptop you can't are you sure that your mobile is not using mobile data and not wifi ?
ferds 0 Posted April 30, 2019 Author Posted April 30, 2019 I have no problem streaming 1080p youtube videos. All devices (phone, laptop and pc) are on the same wifi. And the crazy thing is when I tried to install Emby on my notebook and stream to my PC it worked perfectly. Laptop specs: i7 5500u, NVidia GeForce 920m, 8GB RAM PC specs:Ryzen 7 2700x, GTX 1060 6 GB, 16GB RAM
arche 177 Posted April 30, 2019 Posted April 30, 2019 Not sure if I missed it, did you try a different browser? Also, do you have any plugins/extensions installed in the browser you're trying from the laptop?
ferds 0 Posted April 30, 2019 Author Posted April 30, 2019 I'm using FIrefox. I'll test on different browsers when I get back from work, thanks!
ferds 0 Posted May 1, 2019 Author Posted May 1, 2019 I just found an old modem/router laying around so I created a network and tested Emby. It worked perfectly!! So now I know my modem is causing the issue, the problem is that I have to use this modem provided by my ISP. Any ideas on what modem settings that might be causing these problems? (I am a TOTAL noob on anything related to modems/routers)
Happy2Play 9780 Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 Do you mind listing the model numbers for both modems/routers.
ferds 0 Posted May 1, 2019 Author Posted May 1, 2019 The ISP one: HGB10R-02 The one I tested: TL-MR3020
arche 177 Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 Not a fan of this modem/router. But I know it's out of your control at the moment. Anyways, what do you have your WMM settings at?
ferds 0 Posted May 1, 2019 Author Posted May 1, 2019 This is everythig I found on WMM on the settings... The other thing I found is that when I connect to the server using the lan cable it works fine.
denz 501 Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 (edited) can you disable wmm apsd and try wmm multimedia enable Edited May 1, 2019 by denz
ferds 0 Posted May 1, 2019 Author Posted May 1, 2019 I disabled WMM APSD but it didn't do anything WMM Multimedia can only be toggled between Auto and Disable.
denz 501 Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 Darn the picture that you posted lookes very similar to my modems settings. I am out of suggestions.
ferds 0 Posted May 1, 2019 Author Posted May 1, 2019 Thanks for the attention anyway man. For now I plugged my old router to the ISP router and it's working ok. I'm guessing if I put the ISP's modem in bridge mode an buy a new modem to use as primary things should work, right? lol
arche 177 Posted May 1, 2019 Posted May 1, 2019 Kind of curious if you master reset the modem all together if that would help. I had a xfinity modem before purchasing my own and it had old settings from the previous customer (looks like they never cleared it), but master resetting the modem fixed a different issue i was having. I'm assuming they gave you a used modem. Just a thought.
ferds 0 Posted May 5, 2019 Author Posted May 5, 2019 Just finished factory-resseting the modem but it didn't work, unfortunatelly.
