Procedures to move Cache/Metadata

Are there procedures for moving the Cache and metadata directories to another drive? I've attempted this in the past but it resulted in Emby recreating the cache files instead of using the copied files.

I did a quick search but couldnt find anything as far as procedures.Currently both locations are set to their default values.

Thanks in advance!

You just reconfigure emby to the new location, and then for metadata you should move the old files ideally. Cache you do not need to move.

Is there an order for this for the Metadata? For example:

  1. Change location
  2. Stop Emby
  3. Move Files
  4. Start Emby

And for Cache I just repoint and done?

Yes all of that sounds fine to me.

I want to change the cache location to cut down rsync times.

Will the cache directory get deleted upon restarting? If it doesnt, can i just delete it myself without any repercussions?

You can delete the cache anytime you like without issue. Emby wont delete the old directory when you change the path though, you have to do that yourself.

Yes that is correct.

I followed these steps and it appears everything is running as intended and smoothly!

I now want to clean up the original files and remove anything I can without compromising my server.

I've moved the Cache and Metadata locations to a new drive, the original was in my appdata folder.

I'm not worried about rebuilding images and what not, but do not want to break Emby. What all from the original Appdata folder can be removed without compromising the server?

I know this is a bit more advanced than I should be messing around with, and I appreciate any dumbed down answers.

Thanks!

Pretty sure relocating \Metadata and deleting old has database consequences.  Example is your Image column is by original path and would need manually updated as shown here or Refresh every item.

Yup lol.

All my actors are place holders until I click on them now.

Small sacrifice for a faster server experience.

It is a pretty easy fix as shown in linked topic though.
