dougie175 0 Posted April 15, 2019 Posted April 15, 2019 I have only just installed Emby this evening as a very long time lifetime Plex pass user who is beginning to worder if Emby is better suited to my needs. In my home network I have 2 local accounts, 1 for myself and my wife and another for my young daughter. Though Plex I restrict all content from my daughter unless I add a spesific tag to a TV show, film or music artist whcih then allows her access to it. Looking at the parental controls on Emby this seems to be done the opposite way in that all content is available to her unless I spesify it is unsuitable? I realise I can also filter this by age rating but this never seems quite as reliable for the UK, also just because something is ok for her to watch i.e "U" the lowest rating to the UK it doesnt really mean it is relevant to her, much of the content I have for my wife has no swearing or violence so will be age appropriate but of zero interest to my daughter. Am I over complicating this? I guess 1 of my worries would be me adding something to my library and forgetting to tag it as unsuitable, currently in Plex if I forget to tag a file she can't view it, the opposit way round could lead to content appearing on her account which is unsuitable. Is there a way for my to restrict all content from her unless I add a specific tag to that content?
Luke 42083 Posted April 16, 2019 Posted April 16, 2019 Hi there, if you keep an eye on the testing area of the community, i think this is something we should be able to support in the not too distant future. thanks.

Thanks, that's good news, kind of stops me swapping across at the moment as it seems a little daft to go around tagging all my programs as unsuitable to then switch to tagging programs as suitable as and when the new feature is added, Fingers crossed this is something you implement soon. Thanks
Deathsquirrel 745 Posted April 18, 2019 Posted April 18, 2019 You're not over-complicating it, you're just doing it wrong for the emby model Step one is library setup. I have a family folder and folders for each of my users. Stuff all of us want to watch goes in the family folder. Stuff only one person wants to watch goes in the user folders. I setup everyone with access to the family folder and their user folder. I then overlay that with ratings restrictions where needed. That solves both your problems.
dougie175 0 Posted April 18, 2019 Author Posted April 18, 2019 Thanks for the input sounds interesting So Emby can restrict or grant access by folder location? What do you do when 2 users want access to a tv series but its irrelevant to the family folder?
ebr 16187 Posted April 18, 2019 Posted April 18, 2019 So Emby can restrict or grant access by folder location? New Folder-based Access Control
