Move library folder without re-setting watched/date flags

Hi everyone,

One of my HDs is almost full, so am looking at moving my movies folder to a different hard drive.

Obviously I can move the folder in Windows, and then change the folder path in Emby Server.  BUT before I do that, i just wanted to check if doing it like this will reset any meta-data such as the watched status, or date added etc?

is there a different way I should be moving the folder so that Emby realises it's not all new content and simply the same content in a different folder path?

Thanks,

I manage my media across a couple different hdds and have recently moved a bunch of movies from one 'movies' folder to the other. Emby updated the existing media entries in its db to have the new file paths and nothing else changed. They still have the correct watch status and dates added.

Im actualy planning on moving all my media to a drobo DAS in a couple days once the first 12tb hdd finally gets here :)

Watched statuses are tracked by providerids so moving media around is not a issue as long as they have providerids (ie IMDB, TMDB, or TVDB ids)  All items without any externalid information will loose watched statuses upon relocation.

Date added is another story, assuming you save metadata with media it is recorded in the nfo file and reused.  Otherwise Emby will use the what ever option you have set in Dashboard-Library-Advanced-Date added behavior for new content.

Thanks @@Happy2Play so in short, I simply move the folder, change the library location settings in Emby, and everything "should" be ok?

Yes, exactly. Let us know how you get on. Thanks.

Is it necessary to turn off the emby before changing the hard drive folder?

Depending on what you are doing, but usually yes.  As you could cause multiple update if you use real time monitoring.
