Emby LDAP user

Not what you think, I've added the emby user account to my ldap server and am trying to install emby - unlike Plex, Emby fails the installation because it cannot create the emby user account in /etc/passwd. Is there anyway to make the installation use the emby account in ldap?

If this is covered in the forum somewhere I couldn't find it, though I did find numerous pages on the emby ldap plugin

Hi, the LDAP plugin is for managing users with Emby, whereas I think you are referring to the emby system user that gets created by the installer, is that correct?

Hi thanks for replying, you are correct. I am trying to use the emby user account I created in LDAP which fails the installation because it can;t create the local user account.

Hi, if you look at the user settings of the user account you created during installation, LDAP is not an option for that account. This is so you won't be locked out of your server when the LDAP server is unavailable. I would recommend only using that local account as a failsafe and creating another LDAP account that has the same priviledges to be your regular "admin" account.

So you have installed emby server, or no?

Oh yeah, Emby has been running and managing my 14TB digital media collection for a few years now. This was simply an attempt to migrate to LDAP - which is being implemented as I upgrade my home network and test lab. Emby will just remain a local account.

Have you installed our LDAP plugin?

I was not looking to use LDAP users in Emby, this was to use LDAP to manage the actual emby user - which fails during installation because it's not a local account. What I was trying to do can't be done with Emby which is fine, I'll continue to use a local account for that. This topic can be closed.
