So, im still in the decision proccess of moving from Plex to Emby.

But before i can make a definitive decision i need to know if Emby can play 3D MVC (ISO)?

Plex cant handle that, and as i have a 3D capable projector it would be a nice thing to be able to do. Instead of playing O/U or SBS 3D that has worse quality..

And i dont feel like using two players (i.e plex/emby and powerDVD)

Hi, do you mean with .ISO files?

Hi, do you mean with .ISO files?

i mean in whatever way possible.

be that .iso or .mk3d or full copies of bluray.

as long its mvc, so i get the best possible quality.

We support adding iso files to your library, but the only apps that can play them are the ones that support external players so that you can offload playback of them to something that supports .iso. This generally means the desktop apps.

If it's mkv, then generally speaking, if the device supports 3d then it should work.

ok, i run emby (the server) on windows.

but the client is on an nvidia shield, so cant run external players afaik.

tried with a .mk3d and only got 2D.

the projector is capable of playing 3D. Its a sony hw65es.

@@ebr can comment on 3D on the Shield. Thanks.

Shield doesn't support 3D.

Shield doesn't support 3D.

Sure it can.

Thats just ignorant and/or lazy posting on your behalf.

It can do SBS/OU just fine. But MVC it can not afaik, with the native player at least.

Though i thought that Emby (with the shield) could do it. But perhaps it doesnt matter which app you run on the shield when trying to play MVC 3D?

Our app on the Shield will allow you to use an external player.  However, I don't know if any Android TV players support MVC.

And the OP specifically asked about MVC, noting that they're after an alternaitve to SBS/OU. Context.

Well im the OP. So you're wrong. I don't want an alternative to SBS/OU. I want to know if MVC works on emby on shield. As I said. And as you said that it didn't support 3D you were wrong.

From what I've read, there are only a handful of devices that support MVC.

Yeah, thats my post. And I've read the answer.

Find it ridiculous that almost nothing supports frame packed 3d.

Its like selling devices that only supports standard definition.

But it is what it is.

Guess Im forced to buy a htpc and run powerdvd for my 3d needs.

That's literally what your OP says. I answered your question.

Lol, not really. But sure, whatever. Not gonna go.into a debate with someone who clearly can't (or won't) read.

So you think what you want. And I have gotten the answer I needed from the others so this thread will be "unfollowed" by me now.

So Hopefully some day they will fix it so it pushes 3D MVC in their client and what ever metadata ths is supposed to send it sends.. but till then for anyone reading this post yes it is possible to play 3D MVC movies with PLEX / EMBY / MEZZMO servers.. I have a projector and have been exhausting all options, what i found that works is this.

1) you can rip you owned 3D Bluray's with DVDFAB to .mkv rips everything.. I jsually have my file ripped to about 12GB.

2) install emby / Plex / Mezzmo

3) go in the settings of each and enable to DNLA server.

4) connect with your box ps3 / dune hd / xbox 360 player what ever supports 3D

5) Browse the DNLA server and hit play .

Now I do see in emby there is an option to have save the metadata to the different 3D formats FSBS, HSBS, FOU, MVC.

what I don't understand is why can I set it and have the file correct but won't stream through the Emby android / android tv / app ... I know this was in 2019 right now I'm writing this in 2023, maybe something has changed in the app to allow playback, but I really don't know and I've been using this, and can't find a way.

any help admins ?????

@russfitzpatrick

Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!
