CBaldwinJ89 27 Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 Built in Push Notifications through the app and not 3rd party applications? Is that a foreseen addition or what? Right now I added push bullet and well you have to download the app to just get the notifications. Seems counterproductive honestly at least in my eyes? I'd like to see if maybe the android app could get native notifications, I know Roku would be probably difficult and PC would be easy. Xbox probably the same but may be annoying in the sense while viewing or playing games. At least with the Android (iOS too I'm assuming) we could be notified right from our phones and be like "sweet" turning on Emby and watching a movie now. 7 7 1
Luke 42077 Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 Hi, yes I agree this is a change we need to make. Thanks.

Gohlas 14 Posted April 15, 2022 Posted April 15, 2022 +1 on this. It would be great to have push notifications when new episodes/movies are added.
HawkXP71 112 Posted April 19, 2022 Posted April 19, 2022 Another +1, it would also be great if an admin, can send any push notification they want
skank 85 Posted January 29, 2023 Posted January 29, 2023 MMM seems this is an old topic, guess im obligated to use home assistant to use push notifications right?
michalkaluza 8 Posted August 14, 2025 Posted August 14, 2025 Is there a chance for implementation built in push notifications?

Push notifications for at least the browsers seem to work swimmingly. My desktop gets notifications when my server has a pending update and needs to restart so that seems to work really nice. I know the same kind of mechanic exists (at least within android) to use Chrome's messaging service and is also very similar. If this becomes possible we can also work towards generic notifications to announce new movies, shows or upcoming shows or programs. I would personally really like this to become a feature. 1

michalkaluza 8 Posted August 14, 2025 Posted August 14, 2025 Can you send link to this settings in emby serwer?

brothom 177 Posted September 21, 2025 Posted September 21, 2025 +1. I would like to be able to either automatically or manually notify my users of new shows, episodes, movies, streams or even playlists / collections. Being able to also manually send them would be super useful and would add more much functionality to the current collections / playlist because it would open up the use of seasonal playlists (halloween, christmas, etc), specific genres or just as a method to reach out to the users without needing third party apps like whatsapp, signal, discord etc. Having that inside Emby would keep that type of communication within Emby as well make it much more self sustaining. 1
visproduction 315 Posted September 21, 2025 Posted September 21, 2025 Brothom, Do you have an idea of what the admin dashboard page might look like for sending these promotions? Would you think pull down selection to find the media content plus a text edit area, and an attach option to send an image? The challenge in creating a new feature is to decide how to design the interactive page. For me, that would be helpful, but I am not coding the page. If you add a mock up drawing (wireframe), I think a lot f people will comment. It is like 50 times more work to change an actual page. Any drawing, Powerpoint, or graphic sketch might be nice. It doesn't have to be a correct wireframe.

It doesn't have to be a correct wireframe. I absolutely agree! Without wireframing I'd suggest something like the following: From the media detail page (show, season, episode, movie, book, stream, maybe also playlists and collection overviews) In the detail page, in the "more"-menu, a button could be added called "notify". When the "notify" button is pressed, a dialogue/modal/prompt can be displayed In the "notify" dialogue/modal/prompt, the admin can Enter a title "new" Enter a message (or maybe pick from a set of default messages like "check this out" or whatever) Select the users to notify (maybe a checkbox to select all) Finally send the notification with the provided piece of media, the title, message to the selected users This way the existing functionality and usage flow remains without having to resort to new functions (having unique entries for unique functionalities tend to become confusing quickly as users get lost in the maze of pages). Sending entire collections would allow admins / managers to send "Check out this Halloween playlist!"-like messages or notify users of popular pieces of media "Check out our Christmas photos". By allowing any media (since they all have their own URL / ID) the system remains flexible. Perhaps a nice addition would be the same functionality from the admin dashboard without attaching media for general messaging i.e., "server will be down on 24th of december", etc. Edited September 22, 2025 by brothom 1
michalkaluza 8 Posted September 22, 2025 Posted September 22, 2025 Hi, It seems that the simplest solution to get started will be to add push notifications from the library level for a given media library. A drop-down menu allows you to select a user and uncheck what to receive notifications about new media. 2 1
