feature to pull subtitles automatically

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm still new with Emby.

I'm using my opensubtitles account to get non-english subs for movies.

I couldn't manage to set this subs feature automatically except it works with English subs only.

To solve it, I go to Emby on browser, click on [...], search for subtitles and then choose one of them to download (without keeping the file) - it works.

I think it's worth making this feature automatic.

I hope I'm posting in the right place as I'm not sure if the feature exist or this is an issue

Thanks.

Hi there, have you explored the subtitle download options for your emby libraries?

Posted

And what did you do when you found those?

Posted

I search for a subtitles manually, it find multiple options with one preferred, then I just download it.

after that, I go to the film again (just one click) and have the new subs added.

Posted

Right, that's the manual download feature, but we already have automatic subtitle downloading that you can configure in Emby library setup. Did you explore that?

Posted

Yes, I did that. I get automatic English subtitles (not on all movies) but I never see non-english subtitles unless I try the procedure above.

I even tried to correct the meta-data of the file to see if it go to pull other subs.

I've checked Emby configuration again and again, on the client and server.

How did you configure the automatic subtitle downloading?

Triggered on application startup

Yesterday it works for one film out of 3. the other two I needed to download (using emby server). maybe an option to download subs manually from the TV.

Imagine situation you want the film but no subs, you don't really want to turn on the computer to do all the process. but if you have an option from the TV app to search/replace subs and download them.. can be REALLY good solution

I'll tell you upfront I only speak English and only use English subs so this in new territory for me but I do know how Emby works very well and help with some of the Wiki documentation. We do however have many other members who will likely do what you are trying to do but we need a bit more info to help you.

I'd like to jump in if you wouldn't mind so that I can possibly document this better for the Wiki and/or help to clarify a reproducible situation for the devs to test/improve the product if needed for sub title downloads in languages other than English.

To better understand your situation we'll need a bit more info?

For example, could you supply a movie or two that you are having trouble getting your needed subs for?

What language is the movie audio in (on your local file)?

What language subs are you trying to acquire that aren't English?

Let start with those and we'll expand from that.

@@cayars,

I'm happy to help. that's why I'm writing here, to help you improve Emby.

I also helped to translate more than 60% of Emby to my language  :)

I've checked with Minority report, Bumblebee and Leaving neverland (so far, I'm new with Emby)

The movies are in English and metadata identify it automatically.

WOW, that's great to hear about the translation!

OK so for me to try and reproduce I can use Minority Report or Bumblebee (have them both with English audio).  I need to try and pull down Hebrew subtitles for them correct?

Have you checked to see if the provider has HEBREW subs for these movies?

Posted

Yes

And I’ve checked some other movies, and the translation does exist. Like I said, when I search manually, I found the sub, then the server download them.

But not automatically.

This means your automatic download setting are too restrictive. @@cayars will show you how to check that. Thanks.

I first want to try and duplicate his results with the same couple of movies and languages he's using.

Then, I'll whip up a new Wiki article for this and we'll start with that for the settings.

So could the issue be the "Require a hash match" subtitle option?

What are your set subtitle options for that Library?

It could be that, yes.

To get automatic subtitle downloading:

Install Podnapisi plugin.

Install SubDb plugin.

Restart Emby Server after installing these three plugins.

Next configure Open Subtitles with your username and password. If you don't already have account with Open Subtitles go to https://www.opensubtitles.org/en/newuser and create an account.

Next go into a library such as your movie library. Turn on "show advanced options".

Scroll down to the subtitle section and configure it as follows:

Once you've done this go back and rescan your library with the option to "Search for missing metadata".

After this you'll have your subtitles for your movies.

So could the issue be the "Require a hash match" subtitle option?

If I were a betting man, that would be my bet as well.

Wow thanks a lot!

Sorry I didn’t have a chance to check this yet, but I will and will update.

If it’s not working, will it help if I send you the logs somehow?

I wouldn't install more plugins than you need as it will slow the performance of the library scan. Isn't Podnapisi  only for certain languages?
