kevinw 8 Posted March 30, 2019 Posted March 30, 2019 I’m sure I must be missing something obvious but I can’t figure it out at all. I set up a Firestick for my daughter while at home then brought it to her house. Plugged it in, connected via Emby Connect and it worked perfectly. While here we bought another Firestick, plugged it in, loaded Emby and it came up with the PIN. Because I am an idiot I connected the device with my own account. It then showed both my Emby servers with local IP addresses and couldn’t connect to either. I realised my mistake, signed out of Emby Connect, signed back in again and this time signed in to Emby Connect with my daughter’s credentials and the PIN. It now correctly shows the single server she can connect to but still with a local IP address (does it always show a local 192 address? I can’t say I’ve ever noticed before). When I try to connect to the server Emby tells me the server is unavailable. I know the server is up because I can connect to it via my wife’s iPad. I’m at a bit of a loss now. Is it not finding the server because it’s looking for it locally or have I done something daft? Any suggestions will be gratefully received. Thanks. Kevin
ebr 16184 Posted March 30, 2019 Posted March 30, 2019 Hi. That server selection screen will always only show the local IP of the server. That does not indicate the one it is actually using to connect with (it will actually try both). Are these two Fire devices on the same network?
kevinw 8 Posted April 1, 2019 Author Posted April 1, 2019 Hi Ebr, Yes. It was working perfectly on Saturday on the initial Firestick then, when we connected the second, neither worked. I can connect to our NAS and I can see our back-up instance of EMby running on there but can't connect to that either. Our primary Emby instance runs on an HTPC which also hosts a Plex server. I can connect to Plex on that PC but not Emby. My wife logged her iPad out of Emby and then was unable to log back in because of 'server unavailable'.I suspect connecting the second Firestick is not related to the issue and this is going to have to wait until I get home on Wednesday evening so I can see what's going on there. I should have put TeamViewer on that PC so I can connect to it remotely but, as they say, hindsight is 20/20. Kevin
ebr 16184 Posted April 1, 2019 Posted April 1, 2019 Okay, let us know what you find. Perhaps an IP address or port routing or something changed...
Solution kevinw 8 Posted April 2, 2019 Author Solution Posted April 2, 2019 Problem solved with the aid of our builder and it was nothing to do with Emby so sorry to have wasted your time. The TP-Link smart plug I’d put in so I can reset things remotely if necessary had failed so the modem for the broadband link Emby uses had no power meaning the link was down. Plex uses our other line which explains why it was working. It’s a little irritating that the thing I’d put in to help me resolve issues actually caused the problem but I guess that’s technology for you. Kevin 1
