miniz98 73 Posted March 29, 2019 Author Posted March 29, 2019 I know sucks. I thought my setup was perfect. They always find away to make people move back to cable.
Gilgamesh_48 1240 Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 You guys do know that this is the result of the service that HDHomeRun Premium TV was using not having the rights to many of the channels they were providing. In other words they were pirating the feeds. What does surprise me is that it lasted as long as it did. These days companies are usually quite a bit faster to shut down known pirates. However I do wonder if Emby (or Plex for that matter) might partner with one of the streaming providers (Sling, Vue, DirectTV Now, Fubol or any of the others so as to provide TV streams directly (including local recording) to those of us that cannot receive any local TV at all. While I do have a solution for my viewing it is quite complex and therefore a simpler solution would be most welcome.
sluggo45 47 Posted March 29, 2019 Posted March 29, 2019 (edited) The story behind HDHR Premium, and more specifically, the upstream provider (Omniverse) that provided the feed, is quite complex - and bizarre. Omniverse based the entire premise off an old, local cable franchise contract one of the owners had for a small suburb in Georgia. Omniverse still believes they have the right to resell streams (which literally, in some cases, came off OTA DirectTV boxes - not making that up) but no one else does and they are likely going to get stomped to pieces in court. The surprising thing to me is A) Silicon Dust fell for this and B ) It took Silicon Dust this long to shut down the service. Check out Cordcutters.com, they are documenting the ongoing saga, for more info. As for Plex/Emby working with Sling/Vue/etc. - not going to happen. Or certainly not the way people would like it to, with EPG integration and local DRM free DVR recording. Plex is working with Vudu for on-demand stuff, but that is just providing a pass through stream (with no recording). We aren't going to see a service like HDHR Premium had with any of them. However convenient it might be for us, the user, it is decidedly not convenient for Sling, et all and counter to their business model. Get used to OTA with Emby and use the OTT service of your choice. Or play the pirate stream game. Edited March 29, 2019 by sluggo45
