attezz 0 Posted March 26, 2019 Posted March 26, 2019 We've recently switched to Emby and absolutely love it. There's only one issue we've encountered which we didn't have on a previous server/app we used. Our server is on a desktop that is usually hardwired through a TPLink ethernet adapter. Periodically the adapter will disconnect, and the desktop will revert to a wifi connection. The wifi and ethernet are on the same network as the Nvidia Shield and Roku TV that we use. When this switch happens though, we're no longer able to connect our devices to the Emby server without a decent bit of effort/resetting. Is there a way to fix this? I'd rather not move our modem or desktop, but I'd prefer to keep our devices connected to the sever even when the desktop switches between ethernet/wifi. If need be, we can always just have the desktop remain on wifi, is that the best option?
Solution rbjtech 5284 Posted March 26, 2019 Solution Posted March 26, 2019 (edited) I believe the Ethernet and Wifi will have different IP addresses - so depending how you are connecting in the Emby clients (name or IP address) it may explain why you are having difficulty in 're-connecting'. If you set "Bind to local network address:" (in Advanced Settings) to the Wired Ethernet address ONLY - then Emby will only use this single address and not try and use the Wireless one as well - which could be complicating things. I would suggest fixing the Ethernet connection as that should be your main connection as it will be far more reliable than a wifi-connection - especially for the Emby 'server'. Maybe also check the physical Ethernet cabling at both ends and maybe replace the Ethernet cable. if it still drops, then also re-load the TPLink Ethernet drivers with the latest etc. Having said that - if all your clients are on Wifi - then you could also tell Emby to just bind to the Wifi desktop connection only, which would work equally as well. attezz 0 Posted March 26, 2019 Author Posted March 26, 2019 Thank you so much! After writing my initial post I was pretty certain I'd get non-helpful answers since I did a bit of a poor job explaining. I really appreciate this!
