Hi,

As far as I understand it, versions need to reside in the same folder and be prefixed with the same folder name followed by a dash to the version.

I use this to keep 4K and 1080p versions selectable.

Now, this is a particular issue with radarr as it only allows one file, if you want to maintain both 4K and 1080p you have to run 2 instances of radarr and have the downloads stored in a different folder.

Would it be possible for emby to intelligently merge multiple folders in a library for a movie so that versioning works by keeping files separated, for example.

/movies/UHD/My Movie (2019)/My Movie (2019) - Bluray-2160p.mkv

/movies/HD/My Movie (2019)/My Movie (2019) - Bluray-1080p.mkv

And a library that has both the HD and UHD folders.

This would allow separation of uhd/hd/sd/3d but with the benefits of allowing versions to work.

I’m sure I wouldn’t be the only person who would benefit from such a feature.

Hi, it's possible for the future, thanks.

@@fizzyade You don't need to run 2 instances, you just need to manage it slightly different.

PM me if you want.

@@Luke how likely is this to be considered for the roadmap in the near future? Honestly, it’d be a killer feature.

Using unionfs which is part of nerd pack on unraid I can work around this by creating a 4KMovies folder and merging it with the standard folder, this shows both 4K and 1080p in the same folder but I can set 2 radarr instances up to access the source directories and they obviously don’t see the other file.

I still think it’s a useful feature, but I have an external workaround.

You can already combine movies under the same library entry by multi-selecting them and pressing the menu button that appears. Can be a tedious process to do, but once it's done it sticks.

Would be fun if it were automates though. Same for tv shows when there's more than 1 version.

I worked around this using Unionfs under unraid, 2 instances of Radarr running and everything is automatic, no manual intervention required, unionfs presents a movies hierarchy which is a union of my 4K and standard movies folders.

I’m effectively asking for a cut down version of this behaviour being directly built into Emby.

The versioning works well.

wouldn't auto organize do this natively?

The issue is external to emby, using a third party tool to manage multiple versions. If the versions are in the same folder then radarr will delete the lower resolution one when it upgrades, this is not the behaviour we want. We want both versions, so they have to be in separate folders and with separate instances of radarr controlling them. Somewhere a merge has to occur, I’ve resorted to unionfs, but emby could manage this as well and I think it would be pretty neat.

yeah I get the issue.  if I'm not mistaken, Auto Organize watches a folder (your UHD stuff or whatever) and moves the files there to another folder (your library folder) and adds it to your library.  So 1 Radarr instance adds directly to library, the other Radarr sends to some other folder and Auto Organize picks the movie up from there and adds it to your library.

I've never used Auto Organize, but it seems like it would do what you want w/o having to use unionfs.
