Scott750 29 Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 (edited) I originally had MB3 server and port forwarding running perfectly on my server. I installed a new motherboard and CPU (the NIC died on the old motherboard) and reloaded the program. Now MB3 server is running fine, but the IP address has changed. It used to be 192.###.#.###:8096. Now the IP address is 24.##.##.###:8096. Not sure why it changed, but when I went to add my media folders, it wouldn't see them as network UNC paths, but the standard drive letters, V:\Movies, etc. So I had to setup path substitutions for my media to work. Also I can't change port forwarding in my router to the new IP address because it thinks the 24.##.##.### is an Invalid Host IP. When I pull up the Network Map in Control Panel\Network and Internet, it shows my serve's IP address as 192.###.#.###. How do I change the IP address to the normal 192.###.#.### version? ebr 16172 Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 That is your external IP address - the IP address of your router that you would use to access from outside your network. The 192 one is the internal address. 1
swhitmore 781 Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 (edited) You may also want to setup a DNS if you have a dynamic external IP. Have a look at this KB article: Port Forwarding - A guide I personally use no-ip (free) and have never had an issue with it. Edited May 12, 2014 by swhitmore

The 192 one is the internal address. Why did it default to the external address and not the internal? And how can I make it go back to the internal one? This may all be a moot point. I'm planning to swap the WD Black 640GB OS hard drive for a Samsung 830 128GB SSD soon. I'm hoping that once I reinstall everything it goes back to the internal IP address.
NWW 5 Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 Also, since it is your external IP, you might wanna remove the pic and the info ^^ 1

It would have always shown the external IP address... The server is still accessible via the internal address on your LAN. You use the external on a WAN (if you want to use MB3 outside of your network).
Scott750 29 Posted May 12, 2014 Author Posted May 12, 2014 Also, since it is your external IP, you might wanna remove the pic and the info ^^ I've already taken the server offline and about to reinstall the OS so the IP address shouldn't be the same here by tomorrow. But just in case I will pull the pic and change the info. Thanks!

But just in case I will pull the pic and change the info. Thanks! It probably won't. Your external IP is designated by your ISP and has nothing to do with your server. It won't change unless you shutdown your modem for a period of time, or your ISP changes it. I think you're getting internal and external IP addresses confused. Internally all your computers have an IP address. From what you said earlier you have them in the 192.###.###.### range. Externally your modem has an IP address that your ISP gives to it so that external traffic (i.e. the internet) can be sent to your modem. The Media Browser 3 dashboard shows your external IP address inside a url for remote access. This is so that you can access MB3 from outside your local network via the internet. That link has nothing to do with the IP address of your server. Edited May 12, 2014 by swhitmore 1
Scott750 29 Posted May 12, 2014 Author Posted May 12, 2014 It was weird that before the new motherboard and cpu was installed, mb3 server dashboard display both the 192 internal and 24 external IP address links. After the install it only displayed the external address. I thought maybe this was due to an mb3 update. ButI when I had to do path substitutions that's when I thought something was wrong.
Koleckai Silvestri 1154 Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 (edited) Newer versions of the server only show the Remote Access or External IP address. To get the internal IP, go to Networks and Sharing. Select your Network connection and choose Details. It will show the internal LAN IP. You can also connect to your server internally by using the machine name such as \\Wayne-PC\. The later is how my internal clients connect to the server actually. Edited May 12, 2014 by Wayne Luke 1
Scott750 29 Posted May 12, 2014 Author Posted May 12, 2014 That makes sense. Thanks for the tip. I'll try that.
ebr 16172 Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 Yeah, I highly recommend using machine name because, if you have a standard router setup, your server could get a new internal IP address at any time. 2
