Single season TV shows filename

Recommended Posts

Files whose filename doesn't have a season number can't be scanned correctly in a TV shows type library.

For example

'Mother.2010.E01.WEB-DL.1080p.H264.AAC-FDHD.mp4' will be recognized as S20E10, and other episodes  won't be showed in this TV show.

However, to my surprise, files like '逃げるは恥だが役に立つ 第01話「プロの独身男と秘密の契約結婚」1080p BDRip x265 FLAC-Japari Park.mkv' can be showed in the library, which is cool.

I do know the filename rule for media organization, but there are many Japanese TV shows or anime having just a single season whose filename doesn't have a season number.

I'd like to know if there is any way to solve this problem.

BTW, I can't upload pictures for a TV show. The web page becomes totally black when I try to upload pictures.

The version of my emby server is 4.0.3.0.

Is this the series you are talking about:

https://www.thetvdb.com/series/mother/seasons/1

Very briefly the filename is really up to you, what you choose. The file name you mention - "Mother.2010.E01.WEB-DL.1080p.H264.AAC-FDHD"  doesn't fall into any of the supported file naming methods (that I can find anyway)

As a test try this: Mother.S01E01.Escape from child abuse, the two who became the birds of passage

With this structure in you folders: Mother\Season 01\Mother.S01E01.Escape from child abuse, the two who became the birds of passage

See if that works.

I know the file name doesn't  follow the naming methods for its lacking of season number. But this TV show just has one season, so I think it's not necessary to rename it as "Mother.2010.S01E01.WEB-DL.1080p.H264.AAC-FDHD"  which can be successfully recognized.

I wonder if there is a way to make them scanned into the library without changing filenames, because I have many other series naming like this.

Not that I know of

Are your folders structured is a supported format? That MIGHT help, but I doubt it.

Do you know what the content type (in Emby) is set to for the library this folder is in?

Of course, TV shows.

I think the scanner of emby can't extract the exact episode numbers unless behind a season number. There're 12 episodes in the folder, but the library only shows one with incorrect season and episode number.

To my knowledge (someone correct me if I am wrong please) - With the library set to TV Shows (content type) you need a season in there, either in the folder structure or the in filename. If you have the library set to mixed content Emby is a little more accepting.

That being said I would go with a supported structure and naming convention. You can automate file renaming with any number of tools out there. But that is up to you, everyone has their own preferred method for this type of thing.

Are you concerned with losing the information in that type of file name - like the resolution?

Season folders are optional, but highly recommended, and will help improve matching.

Sorry to bring up an old thread. But I'm meeting the same issue. Emby cannot correctly decode a file name without a season number.

I skip the season number if it's known to have only one season. So it would be reasonable to assume Season 1 if season id is not found in the name.

Example:

File path: /TV Shows/Japan/Miss PILOT (2013)/Miss PILOT EP01 下町の居酒屋の娘、パイロットになる!.mkv

Should be matched to episode 1 in https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/62045-miss-pilot/season/1

We do support some conventions like that, yes.

So is the example above (posted by me) a bug? Or expected as it's using a single season format?

It looks to me that it should work. Thanks a lot!

I think the current 4.7 server will throw it into season unknown but in 4.8 it will default to season 1.

Great! Looking forward to that!
