orbitron 0 Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 When I load the Emby Roku app I get the message Welcome to Emby and a spinning circle for 30 seconds to a minute. Is this the expected behavior? Is there any thing I can do to lessen the delay?
RogerK 9 Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 When I had that same issue I found I was connecting through Emby Connect. I re-did my connection using the local network address and now get an almost instant connection.

So it does seem that utilizing Roku with Emby Connect is causing a delay of 30 seconds to a minute but only on the Roku app. All of the other apps load instantly. I would prefer not to have to bypass Emby Connect. Is the delay by design? I am located in the continental US with the server on my LAN. Thank you!

Have you confirmed that this is a problem for them and that switching the connection type solves it?

Hi, I'm not OP but I found this thread because load time with Emby on Roku is very slow. Direct login did not improve it. Something is up because it wasn't this way last time I used Emby on Roku. It has been a few months though. Plex is still snappy, same server, same Roku, same networks. This is a remote connection. Server has 300M fiber upload, client has 100M cable download. Emby in a web browser at the same location as the Roku is fine too, it is just Emby on Roku. Painfully slow. EDIT (UPDATE): After a restart of the Roku, the direct connection made the load time acceptable. It seems that there is an Emby Connect authentication delay/issue with Roku. We would need to see server logs that show the time it is taking to complete the requests the Roku is making. These would show where the bottleneck is happening. It would also show exactly what the Roku is doing when it is attempting to connect which is where the majority of time is sunk. Once the server address is known and the user is logged in then the application builds the home screen and should start to load. A slow loading home screen might be the latest, on now or next up rows which do take a bit more time when the application first starts to populate at fresh launch. Do you mean the app is slow for authentication/login or do you mean slow to populate the home screen? You say you get the "Welcome to Emby" which indicates the login is success. It also means the views are loaded. It is just slow to fetch these views. How many rows do you have show on the home screen? How many latest rows show there? If you eliminate the latest row on the home screen for that user does it speed this up any? Edited April 6, 2020 by speechles

Luke 42077 Posted April 8, 2020 Posted April 8, 2020 Does that give you the impression that something is wrong? You enabled subtitle downloading for your libraries, so it's looking for subtitles.
silver_2000 3 Posted April 8, 2020 Posted April 8, 2020 Just an idea of what might be contributing to slow login I'm a infrastructure IT person, anything that is making that many queries per hour is unusual to me and might be contributing to server load, and latency. If it's normal it's normal that fine
