I've done a search for this so sorry if I've missed the answer...

What is MBS looking for to create a collection?

For some reason only half of my collections have been auto done the rest have been missed...

All my collections have been set up using the [boxset] tag

That tag or a collection.xml file in that folder.

What do you mean by "only half of my collections have been auto done"?

with all my box sets iv used the [boxset] tag but a lot of them don't seem to have been picked up by the auto boxset plug in.

Unless im doing something wrong.

One that ive checked that has the [boxset] also has a collection.xml but isn't being picked up

When I say collections I mean box sets

You are misunderstanding the auto boxset plug-in.  It doesn't pick up the box sets you create manually.  It creates box sets from the metadata defined in your movies automatically.  If you want to use the auto boxset plug-in, you shouldn't be defining box sets manually - that is what the plug-in is for.

I thought with it picking some up that where already created it would have picked up the lot

I'm not sure what you mean by "pick up" but the auto box set plug-in doesn't look at box sets you've created.  It creates box sets by looking at your movies.  The whole point of the plug-in is so you don't have to create the box sets yourself.

I take it that you still need to have them in one folder.

so if I was putting a start wars collection together I would have all the films in there own folder but in a star wars folder, but I don't need to put [boxset] on the end of the main folder name?

or do I have all the star wars films in there own individual folders in my movies collection root folder?

No, they don't have to even be in the same media folder.  The Auto Boxset plug-in looks at the metadata for each movie.  Within there, there is a "tmdbCollectionId" field that tells us that movie belongs to a specific collection.

We just search all your movies for that id and aggregate them by collection and automatically create them for you.  So, as long as the metadata is correct, you don't have to do anything - you just get box sets for all your movies - automatically.

I've found a collection that both films have the correct "tmdbCollectionId" field ive moved them into the root movie folder and deleted there boxset folder rescanned but its still not putting it into the collection section

I stand corrected, it has done it but its taken a bit of time....

can it not be set up to add [boxset] tagged movies to the collection's section?

out of interest ebr dose it create a folder somewhere that the collection are etc is in? as some of my collections have theme music in there collection folder

All the automatic collections are created in the same place as the ones you create manually with the server interface (mediabrowser-server\data\collections).

im still finding it very hit and miss to be honest, is there a way of putting something into the dashboard to show that its doing something ie downloading

Posted

The plug-in doesn't download anything.  All it does is what I said above - look at the metadata of  your movies and create collections based on that data.  If it is hit-and-miss it is because either the data at tmdb or in your local metadata is hit and miss :).  That can definitely be the case but we can only be as good as the source data.

There are log messages written as it discovers and creates the sets.

Dose it not download covers etc?

No, the normal metadata fetching system does that.  But, again, that is only going to be as good as the source data and some of the data for collections at tmdb is sparse.

Quite surprised it didn't do star wars or James bond

What does "didn't do" mean?

I have the autoboxset plugin installed and have had no problem with it. Star Wars and James Bond were created without a problem.

This: http://www.themoviedb.org/collection/10-star-wars-collection is what is used for the collection. But as ebr says, the individual movies have to be correct!

Can you check the TheMovieDb id value in the individual movies, for Star Wars to be recognized it need to be 10, for James Bond it needs to be 645.

seem to be getting it sorted now.....

ebr dose it ignore music videos?

I have some of the top 40 videos that I want to do a manual collection but when I do the search it wont find any of them
