Folder View in the server release?

I am use to using the folder view and it seams like the new ver of server dose not allow this. Is this coming back or is it long gone?

I love the new ideals and I think keeping folder view should be one of them. Let me know thanks

That is what I am meaning. In the new server program I no longer have that tab any more. I can provid a screen shot for you. also as an FYI. I installed server backup to resoter my setting from on old server. ( I made a phical server with hardware coding) I could not get to eh settings to add my backups from my old server I had to copy and past the link from my old one to fine the path. I only could click to uninstall. Just giving feed back.

Any clue why some movies are not playing back? What has changed for me I bought a Quadro RTX 5000 for trans coding and this into a real PC not a VM PC.

IS there any way to get an older ver of the server and install it again? This new setup even thoue as cool as it is. it just is not going to work for us.

This is not a complaint, I have been with emby all the way back to media browser.  We have 1000's of movies and we had to back in the setup each movies in its own folder and browse them that way. (if yo recall). we go so far back that VTS videos was the way to do it. Then when emby did a big, but good upgrade some two years ago I had to convert each movie into a MKV, So the folder browser makes all the world of difference to us.  We use to have that folder show on the main page. now I don't have the folder icon any more on the main screen and my kids have to go and hunt for it. and I don't know why but only about 1/2 of all the move will even play back now. I shut the new server down and power up the old one and every movie plays just fine and I can browse our movies just like we are use to doing. I have young kids and the last thing I need is a hard why for them to get to what they want they way they are use to it. They dont understand the complex chaining of the system, they are 5 and dont care. I just spent a very nice penny for build a hard core system and would love to use it with the older ver. I dont want my hard ware to go to waist. I mean I just spent $2k on the graphics card alone. But its worth it to me to stay with the old verion and not even use my new gear if this new system wont work the way we need it to. I have always support emby and I think some of the new things are cool as heck. so please dont take this as a bit as a downer. Just need a few simple things to work for us.

ok, sorry I don't want to blame you - but your last post was (at least for me) very hard to understand... :-(

I haven't ever used a version of emby before 4.0.1.0 - so I do not have any comparison between the different versions - but I think, it could be worth to spent some time in trying to get the newer version up and running in a way you and your kids are familiar with - and enjoy the software

so - first, I would like to focus on the playback issue, because, getting this sorted out might be also helpful for others.
Can you please provide some information about the folder structure of such a movie, which will show the playback error?


Then - regarding to your system layout:
It would be nice to have an example, how your old installation looked like.
I think, it should be possible somehow to recreate this look or - make it even simpler for your family

The only way to get back to a server version 3.* is a complete new install of the server and then run the library scans because server version 4.* did a total change of the data base and the server version4.* DB will not work with server version 3.*

 

So if you have been with Emby since the Media Browser days and have that structure then I presume in your folders you have the images and meta data and hopefully also XML files. Install a server version 3.* then add the XML plugin and run the library scan to get back your old data base and ways to navigate and display your media libraries. A few here in the forum have been disappointed not having the folder, Legacy or nested folder view. Emby developers have moved into a different direction and it necessitated the change in the data base and thus the loss of the folder view feature.

 

With 1000s of movies I can understand you want the minimum amount of time to get your way of doing things back but with the new server version you would have to change your structure and also create collections to possibly have the look and feel of the server version 3.* that you are used to.

Thanks for the link. That worked. it just looks like all I did we prolong what will happen any ways. I did get the play back to work on the new server. But I wonder if I am the only one who is complaining about the new server. All the clip art now sucks. You said they build a new DB, how dose the clip art work now. Because looking like this looks cheap.

Between your first and the second screenshot of yours I noticed a similar problem depending on the client. In the first screenshot all it did was take the backdrop image and added it to be displayed that looks terrible. What you need is in the primary image a posters size one like 1000 x 1500 pixels. In addition I would also upload an image 600 x 338 pixels and upload in the Thumbs category. This helped me with the Roku images. Check the images for those that look terrible and see if you have a poster image size as primary and backdrop images (1920 x 1080) as well as Thumb images (600 x 338).

 

I take it that you will work with both servers version 4.* and version 3.* when you got ironed out all the details and are ready to spend the time changing your setup go for it.

 

@@Happy2Play that is really poor that there are no installers for older versions, I do have some but not version 3.5.3.0 is there a guide or a procedure on how to use the Github link you posted? Not all of us are tech savvy enough to work in that environment.

Oneigo, thanks for the input again. You have been a big help. It will suck if I have to go though all of these and redo all the art. Holy cow that will suck!  What I did in the past is make sure the folder was named correct and used the plug in clip art. and Emby would find all the clip art and down load it to the folder. here is what it look like. I wonder if the 3.5 server image up loads are not working for 4.0.
