VirtualEmby 1 Posted March 17, 2019 Posted March 17, 2019 I'm trying to play a 4K video to a Chromecast Ultra but it's transcoding and I'm trying to figure out why. The Dashboard says it's converting it from HEVC to H264. mkvtoolnix says this about the video: | + Codec ID: V_MPEGH/ISO/HEVC | + Codec's private data: size 2253 (HEVC profile: Main 10 @L5.1) Chromecast ultra specs say it supports Main10 up to 5.1, so it shouldn't need transcoding, so trying to figure out why it is.
schmitty 66 Posted March 18, 2019 Posted March 18, 2019 Are you playing over lan or wan? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
VirtualEmby 1 Posted March 18, 2019 Author Posted March 18, 2019 The Chromecast is connected to ethernet, as is the Emby server. The laptop I was casting from was wireless, but that shouldn't affect it. Encoding is set to auto.
schmitty 66 Posted March 19, 2019 Posted March 19, 2019 I'm guessing your LAN is gigabit, with cat 5e/6 cabling
VirtualEmby 1 Posted March 19, 2019 Author Posted March 19, 2019 Yes, Gigabit...But 100mb is more than fast enough for 4K. 4K only needs about 20-30mb/s.
