TV sorting / seasons / metdata issues

Recommended Posts

First, I started encountering "Error BaseItem: Found folder containing items with duplicate id" after there were some incorrect manually sorted files (no season folder) and I removed them and moved them to a correct season folder.

Following another topic: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/69079-missing-episodes-in-tv-show/?hl=%2Berror+%2Bbaseitem%3A+%2Bfound+%2Bfolder+%2Bcontaining+%2Bitems+%2Bwith+%2Bduplicate

I did a rescan and tried to add them again.

During that duration some new TV episodes were sorted and maybe interfered with some of the rescan-processes, because afterwards I had some new TV series without any listed seasons or episodes, or others with some of the episodes but not all of them listed even though the files are there.

So I'm left with correctly sorted files, but no more rescans will add them to Emby...

Furthermore, but probably unrelated: On the dashboard, the "newest TV series" always has a duplicate entry (not always the same), see screenshot

Regards
Max

Hi, what exactly is your issue?

Posted

Sorry, probably mixed together to many isssues:

1.) I have some TV shows which are not detected with a library scan.

They are named correctly, and the TV show folder is recognized, but not all (or none) of the episodes are recognized.

- First, that occured to me, was after I removed and resorted some of a TV shows episode, which have not been in the correct season folder before, therefore I thought it would be related to the "duplicate id" issue.

- Now, it also happened for some new TV shows with episodes that never have been scanned before, and therefore it seems to be another problem.

2.) If issue (1) might be some library database issue, I would be fine with resetting the library BUT would like to keep the watched status (for all users), is that possible?

3.) On the Dashboard the list of "Newest TV shows/episodes" sometimes lists a TV show twice (most of the time the first entry)

Regarding this, let's please go over an example. Thanks.

1. Example TV Show "Dragon Ball Z".

Folder structure:

> Dragon Ball Z (1989) > Season 01 > S01E01 - Ein außerirdischer Krieger.mkv

The TV show is recognized: pictures and nfo are generated in the folder Dragon Ball Z (1989)

The seasons are not recognized, neither Season 01 nor Season 02 contain a season.nfo

The episodes are not recognized: the folder Season 01 only contains the mkv files, no pictures or nfo files.

Emby shows the TV show, but no Seasons or episodes.

2. example TV show "Powers"

Folder structure:

> Powers (2015) > Season 01 > S01E01 - Pilot.mkv

The TV show is recognized: pictures and nfo are generated in the folder Powers (2015)

The seasons are not recognized, neither Season 01 nor Season 02 contain a season.nfo

The episodes are only recognized partly: the folder Season 01 contains the mkv files, but only pictures and nfo files for the first 3 episodes out of 6; the folder Season 02 contains the only mkv files, no pictures and nfo files.

Emby shows the TV show, but no seasons:

Try removing those series folders from your library, then running a full library scan, and then adding them back. Please see if that helps. Thanks.

It seems to help sometimes.

For example, with Dragon Ball Z I already tried that, with no change, yesterday.

However, just tried it again and it worked this time....

Now I added the next two seasons, but again, they do not appear in Emby, but the logs show that the files were "processed":

Also doing a "rescan" after some time did not change it.

So, Season 3 and 4 did not work, so I deleted Season 3 again and did a rescan, then added Season 3 again and did another rescan.

This did not help with Season 3, but for some reason now the first 3 episodes of Season 4 have their metadata/picture, which have not been there before....

Can I provide you with any more hints/information, or should I test something?

Could it be that there is an issue if too many "new" files are detected?

Suddenly, after another "rescan" the first 3 episodes of Seasons 3 have their metadata&images pulled...

Or some sort of timeout for the process?

Just to clarify, is there a difference (if only considering the effect on the mentioned library) between the following?

  • Running "Library > Scan all libraries"
  • Running "Library > Series (my lib name) > Scan library"
  • Running "Tasks > Scan media library"
Posted

After removing "Powers (2015)" and rescan, I addded a single episode again:

"Powers (2015) > Season 01 > S01E01 - Pilot.mkv"

Interestingly enough, the TV series is recognized (tvshow.nfo) AND the episode is recognized (S01E01 - Pilot.nfo, no image though), but the Season is not recognized (no season.nfo)

Emby shows the TV show, and allows to start/continue the "episode" but does not show the Season at all.

what is the folder structure?

Folder "series1" is the library folder:

What i would try doing is removing the entire Powers series folder out of your library, then run a complete library scan, then add it back. Please see if that helps. Thanks.

- Already did that 2 times, always testing with a single episode (S01E01) now to avoid long delays while testing

First time it again added the show and the episode but not the season,

the second time it added the season as well, but when I then tried to add another episode (S01E02) it took some time until it showed up correctly

- For another TV show I tried the same but there seemed to be some remnants in the database because I have several episodes twice, as seperated entries:

One of both with incorrect meta data and one with the correct one

After letting Emby fix the metadata, they showed as the same entry with two versions but are actually the same path/file:

5c92a9f9e52e7_Unbenannt2.png

5c92aa02d5cb7_Unbenannt.png

- And on several other occasions I noticed that episodes were listed with different version were both point to the same file, but using local paths ("\volume6\series1\...") for the one and global paths ("\\192.168.0.123\series1\") for the other

Ok, with a lot of effort in removing TV shows, library rescans, adding them again, and several repeats, as well as removing episodes and readding them one by one, I could solve most of the issues so far.

But I assume that this should not have happened, maybe my descriptions/logs can be somewhat helpful in the future.
