Birdy110 1 Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 (edited) For few days it has been a nightmare trying to get Emby work with my windows 10. The server runs and it is accessible from other devices via ip address (browser). But when I try to access it via UPnP in Kodi on my Nvidia Shield the server is not detected and can't be accessed. I have tried everything: opening port 8096 in firewall (even router), adding emby directory to exeptions in antivirus program, totally disabling firewall, Un-installing Plex, and resetting windows network. But nothing seem to work! Suddenly Emby start working normally and the next time it will not! This is how my windows network looks when emby decide to work: If emby decide to make me happy, then it shows its Green emby icon. (This is not the case in this picture)! And this is when it will no longer work: On the same PC if I run Plex or Kodi , then they both show as network devices and are both accessible with no problem from my shield!!! I have been searching and trying everything for few days now with no result! So I thought it is time to ask for help! I have tried latest stable build and the two last beta versions with same result! (I have attached last server log) embyserver.txt Edited March 11, 2019 by Birdy110
serpi 82 Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 Did you try to enable the sent alive messages in DLNA settings (or how it is named in your language)? For me, Emby DLNA is not recognized until I enable it. Ciao, Alfred
Birdy110 1 Posted March 11, 2019 Author Posted March 11, 2019 Hello Alfred, is this what you mean: Blast alive messages = ENABLED Enable this if the server is not detected reliably by other UPnP devices on your network. Alive message interval (1800)
Luke 42080 Posted March 12, 2019 Posted March 12, 2019 I would check windows firewall and make sure there are no rules on the server executable blocking the UDP protocol.
Birdy110 1 Posted March 12, 2019 Author Posted March 12, 2019 (edited) I would check windows firewall and make sure there are no rules on the server executable blocking the UDP protocol. As I explained in my post I even turned off my firewall, added emby to all port and all protocol allow, even opened the port on my router! at the same time as I said Plex and Kodi servers just run smooth and normal on the same pc! there is a bug on upnp part of emby and after reading a lot of posts I see that I am not the only person affected by this problem! For a server application like Emby this is bad! and it should be on the top priority task before anything else to be fixed. Edited March 12, 2019 by Birdy110
Luke 42080 Posted March 12, 2019 Posted March 12, 2019 As I explained in my post I even turned off my firewall, added emby to all port and all protocol allow, even opened the port on my router! And as we explain in our Connection Troubleshooter, this can actually make things worse in some cases. It is better to leave it on and make sure it is configured properly, than to turn it off.
Birdy110 1 Posted March 12, 2019 Author Posted March 12, 2019 And as we explain in our Connection Troubleshooter, this can actually make things worse in some cases. It is better to leave it on and make sure it is configured properly, than to turn it off. I read that before posting and took all the steps as explained in the connection troubleshooter. But the problem still persist. Right sometimes I reboot the pc and then it suddenly work normally. (just right now I rebooted and it working!) and sometimes it wont! If the problem was the firewall setting or router or my settings in MB then it should not work at all! another thing that helped was a network reset from windows 10 settings/"network and internet" /status. but then the next day problem is back. Sometimes its working perfect and if I close kodi and re-open it again then the server is no longer accessible! There is for sure a problem somewhere, but I have spent hours trying to figure it out with 0 success
Carlo 4561 Posted March 12, 2019 Posted March 12, 2019 Took a quick look at your log and see: System.Net.Http.HttpRequestException: System.Net.Http.HttpRequestException: An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by its access permissions ---> System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: An attempt was made to access a socket in a way forbidden by its access permissions This follows the DLNA section so it's possible something could be interfering with DLNA.

Thanks a lot for the information. Unfortunately I have no idea what it is referring to! What settings in windows should I use to change permission ?
serpi 82 Posted March 14, 2019 Posted March 14, 2019 Hello Alfred, is this what you mean: Blast alive messages = ENABLED Enable this if the server is not detected reliably by other UPnP devices on your network. Alive message interval (1800) Yes, this seems to be the setting. Also, make sure you have enabled the Enable DLNA Server option Ciao, Alfred

This error message typically suggests security settings on the machine or security software is denying Emby Server access to what it needs.
Birdy110 1 Posted March 14, 2019 Author Posted March 14, 2019 Well the only security software I have on my pc are Bitdefender and malwarebytes. In bitdefender firewall I have permitted everything for emby and I have also added emby folder to exclusion list on malwarebytes. If there is any known issue with these two softwares or if you think of any seetings in windows OS please let me know.
Birdy110 1 Posted March 15, 2019 Author Posted March 15, 2019 I guess unfortunately we will never know what the problem was! (it could be useful for someone else facing this problem!) I uninstalled bitdefender and malwarebytes and still had the same problem, So I went for the path I wanted to avoid! That was reinstalling windows! After a clean windows 10 install it seem that the problem is gone and emby server is discovrable again!
Birdy110 1 Posted March 16, 2019 Author Posted March 16, 2019 (edited) The nightmare begins again! everything was working perfect for a day and suddenly Emby is again not discovered as UPnP. The only changes I have done : Installed: lav filtersmadvrpotplayerbeyond comparelatest nvidia driversccleaner (ccleaner cleared cookies and also this folder C:\Users\Elite\AppData\Local\Temp\) <--- can this be a problem?windows settings : do i need any background app to get emby working? (any privacy setting that could cause this?) I just installed Plex and it works perfect! Also installed kodi and UPnP server runs perfect! I have attached two logs. One when it work and one when it stopped working. Maybe someone could compare! Even if there was a problem on my side, isn't emby shaky and unreliable server when others can work in same environment? Edit: Another strange thing is when I get it working if I restart pc it will work again. But if I shutdown windows and then start the PC it will no longer work for sure! working.xml not working.xml Edited March 16, 2019 by Birdy110
Birdy110 1 Posted March 16, 2019 Author Posted March 16, 2019 (edited) So no support here!? 0 download for logs! No admin cares even to check these logs and see what's wrong!? Edited March 16, 2019 by Birdy110
Luke 42080 Posted March 16, 2019 Posted March 16, 2019 Hi, as you can see in the forum we work very hard here to provide support. You just posted these last night. Thank you for your patience in allowing more time.
Birdy110 1 Posted March 18, 2019 Author Posted March 18, 2019 Hi, as you can see in the forum we work very hard here to provide support. You just posted these last night. Thank you for your patience in allowing more time. This is not a problem posted last night! this is posted 8 days ago and you have not provided any helpful help or solution. Working hard is to fix users real problems and not only answer to some easy questions! Now let's get to the problem. As there is no one competent to identify it I have finally been able to find what is going on after wasting many hours. The server stop working correctly if you have Two or plus network adapters. In my case I have an Ethernet (Intel® 82579LM Gigabit Network Connection) and also a wifi (Intel® Centrino® Ultimate-N 6300 AGN). I am connected to internet via Ethernet connection. Now if you disable the wifi adapter the server (UPnP) problem is solved and it will start working normally. As explained before other servers like PLEX and KODI work without the need for disabling other adapters. So something in your code is broken and need to be fixed. At least add this on a known issue list for emby so other users don't struggle hours trying to find out what is wrong! This is minimum respect for people using you software. No need to mention that this problem is present for months now!
