Playback freezes on live tv when I ff too much.

I have a windows 10 machine with i7 gen 3 processor, 16gb ram hard wired to new netgear router.

 

My streamer is a new amazon fire tv cube.

 

Any time I record a show, if I start watching it while it's still recording, and I fast forward very much the playback freezes.  I tried an experiment where I'd only ff for three presses of the ff button, then wait for playback, then three more etc. but after maybe ten or 15 mins of recording time it froze.

 

I wonder if there's a work around.  Is it better to record in one format vs another?

 

I'm testing out both Plex and Emby and both seem to struggle with playing back while recording ... not sure who will win at this point.

 

Edit:  a show completed recording so I tested out the ff.  It worked fine.  It was a half hour show, no problems.  I ffd through nearly all and it started playing right away.

Hi, is it possible you tried to fast forward beyond the live position?
