tp546 41 Posted February 27, 2019 Posted February 27, 2019 I have been unable to consistently access my content via any device - Windows 7 Media Center allows me to log in and sometimes my folders will load, but most of the time when I click into any of them, Emby shows them as empty, which they are not. When I check the server dashboard, it almost always seems to be in a state of refreshing my library. A few times I have tried to restart the computer running the server and then when it comes back up, Emby is not usable and the when I try to load the dashboard it gives me a message that "Emby Server is upgrading your database. Please try again in a minute or two." It seems as though it keeps trying to go through the upgrade process for some reason and I think it is getting stuck somewhere during my library refreshes. Can someone tell me why this is happening and how to fix it please? I'm attaching a bunch of log files here as well - please let me know if you need anything else. Log.txt Log2.txt Log3.txt Log4.txt
Luke 42080 Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 @@tp546 your upgrade is not running multiple times as was suggested elsewhere. What time did you have a problem? Can you provide a log from directly after starting up emby server and launching the web interface. I think the issue is that the server takes longer to start up now, and you're probably trying to access it during the startup phase. If i can see a server log from right after starting the server, then I can look at how long it's taking your server to start. Thanks !
tp546 41 Posted March 8, 2019 Author Posted March 8, 2019 (edited) @@Luke, The server has been running (I haven't turned it off anyway) for over a week, yet every time I try to access it, nothing loads. If I hit refresh and wait, things will start loading, but I have a large library and I can't do this every time I use Emby because it takes far too long for it to load. It just happened to me again now and I am attaching my most recent log. When I look at the dashboard, it is once again scanning the media library. I don't know if it is a coincidence, but every time I look it seems to be somewhere between 85-92%. If you still want me to restart the server and send a log let me know, but this is the log for the problem I am ultimately trying to solve for. Thanks. Log5.txt Edited March 8, 2019 by tp546
Luke 42080 Posted March 8, 2019 Posted March 8, 2019 Is it possible that your system just cannot handle the library scan and normal media consumption at the same time? There is also a guide refresh happening here at the same time. Why not stop those operations and simply schedule them for a time when that is not your prime viewing hours? Additionally you might consider removing the CoverArt plugin to improve the performance of the server as well. Please let us know if this helps. Thanks.

I have been running this on mostly the same hardware for 6 years without any problems - the problems only started when the server upgraded. Up until then, everything was going smoothly. Good question - I didn't schedule anything or change my settings at all - why is it constantly trying to update? That's the question I have here. If there are settings I should change, let me know, but I haven't changed anything which is why this while experience is so frustrating. Edited March 8, 2019 by tp546
Luke 42080 Posted March 8, 2019 Posted March 8, 2019 The library scan is scheduled to run in Scheduled Tasks every x number of hours. I think our default is every 12 or 24 hours, so this triggered. And it just so happened to trigger for both that and the guide refresh at the same time, which might be causing a high load on the system.
tp546 41 Posted March 8, 2019 Author Posted March 8, 2019 That doesn't seem to make sense though because I have had problems at all different hours of the day. It seems to be running in a never ending loop. Is there a major change in how this works versus the old server?
Happy2Play 9782 Posted March 8, 2019 Posted March 8, 2019 @@Luke Why is the log full of LIVETV metadata deleting (18+ hours in this log), is this just cleaning up years of old data? 2019-03-08 00:00:00.190 Debug App: Deleting path C:\Users\Remote\AppData\Roaming\MediaBrowser-Server\metadata\livetv\xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Luke 42080 Posted March 8, 2019 Posted March 8, 2019 I can only comment on what i see in this particular log, and that is what i see here. Maybe at some point you customized the schedule of those operations and made them much more frequent. I would check their Schedule under Scheduled Tasks.
tp546 41 Posted March 9, 2019 Author Posted March 9, 2019 refresh guide never seems to end and why does everything else take so long?!?! there is clearly something wrong here. scan media library is set to run every 12 hours so that shouldn't be an issue. refresh guide is set to run every 24. @@ebr my old friend, any insight here? i am installing plex this weekend if we can't get this resolved because this is unbearable
Happy2Play 9782 Posted March 9, 2019 Posted March 9, 2019 To me there is definitely something wrong in \metadata\livetv as all your logs show a continuously delete in that path. But scans should not be taking that long either.
Luke 42080 Posted March 9, 2019 Posted March 9, 2019 Can you please try removing the nextpvr plugin, and then restart the server? thanks.
tp546 41 Posted March 9, 2019 Author Posted March 9, 2019 I just killed the guide refresh and removed my tuners and all of a sudden everything is whipping around like normal again. @@Happy2Play thanks for the insight there - much appreciated. I'll try adding them back but that seems to be the root of the problem. Any additional insight is welcome here.
Luke 42080 Posted March 9, 2019 Posted March 9, 2019 To increase the performance of your server, please uninstall these plugins: Next Pvr 3.3.0.0 CoverArt 4.0.93.0 Thanks.
tp546 41 Posted March 21, 2019 Author Posted March 21, 2019 I removed my tuners and haven't had any problems since then and have used it a handful of times on various devices without iasue. I do want to be able to use my tuners though so I need to figure out how to add them back and not reintroduce the problem again. Are you saying that removing those plugins should do it? Does that still allow me access to my tuners?
Luke 42080 Posted March 22, 2019 Posted March 22, 2019 When the next pvr plugin gets hung up, the core server is currently having some difficulty with it. For the next release, I am improving the way it will handle this. Thanks.
