johnhb 7 Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 Is there a way overriding/disabling scraped genres in favour of using folder structures to define the genre? Ideally I would like MB3 to use the containing folder as the genre for my movies (e.g. based on something like c:\movies\actions\[film title], c:\movies\comedy\[film title] ). I know this does not suit the majority, but I only have a limited number of titles, do not need multiple genres per title and would like tighter control over the genres used so browsing works better for me. I read about settings up shortcuts, but this seems to apply to older versions of MB and I couldn't get this to work. Many thanks.
Deathsquirrel 745 Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 What you're describing really isn't scalable. As your collection grows you end up having to make a lot of decisions that just don't make sense. You can install the Genre cleaner plugin to eliminate genres you don't use. For example I use Action and I use Adventure but I don't use Action/Adventure so the cleaner strips that out for me. You can manually edit the Genre list when you add a movie to cut it down to one genre if you really want to. But for the sake of your sanity as your collection grows, don't try to physically store different genres of movies in different folders on your server.
johnhb 7 Posted May 7, 2014 Author Posted May 7, 2014 (edited) I think I spotted this in the editor, but it looks like I have to do it separately for every title? ...Agreed this isn't for everyone, but the rationale is I want to arrange my videos as Movies, Music, Home, Fitness and Standup (ignore my example above, was just trying to keep my example simple!) This is kind of misuse of the genres category, but it's the only way I can see of being able to separate my videos the way I want without having to go into folder view (though I'm certainly open to suggestions) Unfortunately Movies/TV Shows and Music doesn't cover all top-level categories for me... I don't see my film collection growing too much, so I'm fine with the risk for now :-) Edited May 7, 2014 by johnhb
Luke 42078 Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 There is no way to configure to grab genres from folder names, but you can lock genre fields using the editor and edit manually.
