bunkertor7 0 Posted February 25, 2019 Posted February 25, 2019 Hi there! I did some research but wasn't able to find a clear answer to my question (or the topic was too old). I used Plex for several years as a free user and stumbled across emby a few weeks ago when I was thinking about getting a Plex lifetime pass. The thing that drives me nuts about plex: offline use with apps. It always transcodes which takes too much time. I just want the files to download "as is" to my devices. So here's my scenario: iOS and Android devices. I've got a few minutes left, before I leave the house. I'd like to have two or three movies on my devices to take with me and watch them online. Question: will the Emby apps just copy the files over Wifi (-> fast) or will transcoding take place (-> slow)? Thanks in advance for your help - and sorry if this topic might have come up earlier and I just overlooked it.

I guess another question is can the phone handle lossless audio? Assuming you have high quality rips.
bunkertor7 0 Posted February 25, 2019 Author Posted February 25, 2019 (edited) Thanks for the screenshot! It would be great, if "original" would translate into "copy 1:1". In Plex there is the exact same option - but this is nevertheless resulting in transcoding... :/ Edited February 25, 2019 by bunkertor7
bunkertor7 0 Posted February 26, 2019 Author Posted February 26, 2019 So, before buying a lifetime pass, I just got a monthly pass to test this issue. It seems that files are indeed transferred "as is" without transcoding. Although I struggled with the "transferring 0%" problem. But as long as I don't have to wait hours to just copy one season I'm more than glad!
