ebr 16169 Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 I assume you can also get to: \\MEDIASERVER\MediaServer\Movies On the same machine under the same user running the server? Can we please see a screen shot of exactly how you setup the folders in the library? Thanks.
dragonkeyper 1 Posted March 5, 2019 Author Posted March 5, 2019 On your library settings - are you saving the metadata local to the Emby installation - the default, or have you ticked the box to store the metadata in the media folders (on the 'media' machine) ? I've attached a screen shot with my metadata settings, I've chosen to store the metadata on my media sever and not my Emby Server. Currrently both servers are AMD Phenom II 965 with 4GB ram. I will be updating the Emby sever to an AMD Ryzen 1700 seeing as in that performance range the 1700 is the best bang for the buck. If on the Emby 'server' you can type the UNC path and 'see' the remote media (and execute/play it if required) then there is zero reason why Emby cannot do the same - as that is exactly what the library scan is doing . Yes I can navigate to through the directory tree just fine. Hence my confusion I have built apps utilizing the same APIs the Emby team is using and the APIs work very well, not sure whats going wrong in my set up since other HTPC software is not having the same issue. I did a deep dive into the issue before asking any questions. I verified all settings\permissions multiple times as i felt like I was being a numskull and was missing something simple, still may be the case I can be obtuse at times,
ebr 16169 Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 Can you confirm that there is no other library that can also see that same exact folder (or subset of it)?

Can we please see a screen shot of exactly how you setup the folders in the library? Thanks. Sure thing I use the K.I.S.S. method "Keep It Simple Stupid". Any customization I like to do through the HTPC software. Just because some people like to miss label movies like Halloween as a horror storey when its actually a romantic comedy about teen incest. As long as keep my directory structure simple even people not using a front end can find what they are looking for. Images attached:
dragonkeyper 1 Posted March 6, 2019 Author Posted March 6, 2019 Can you confirm that there is no other library that can also see that same exact folder (or subset of it)? Yes I can. - It's a clean Windows install. - With a fresh Emby installation. - Currently Emby is the only software installed on the machine. - The movie library is the only library I have attempted to setup .
Happy2Play 9780 Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 (edited) Wild guess but if you remove the two movies that begin with "periods", Does Emby pick up the rest to the movies? Shouldn't be a issue as I just added "...All the Marbles (1981)" without issue. It is almost like you have a ".ignore" file somewhere. @@dragonkeyper Are there any loose or hidden files within that Movie folder? Edited March 6, 2019 by Happy2Play
dragonkeyper 1 Posted March 6, 2019 Author Posted March 6, 2019 That's a good catch!!! I didn't even think about that. I'm going back down stairs to test. Will post back shortly.
dragonkeyper 1 Posted March 6, 2019 Author Posted March 6, 2019 No dice still does not import the movies. I removed all movie directories that began with special symbols periods, brackets and dollar sign. It was a good thought though, when the TMDB app first came out I recall having to add code to handle special characters.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 Do you get the same behavior if you renamed the "\\MEDIASERVER\MediaServer\Movies" folder and also give it a different library display name?
dragonkeyper 1 Posted March 6, 2019 Author Posted March 6, 2019 (edited) Still a no go. Emby sees the directory structure but fo some reason it does not perform a scrape the content. Logs attached. Meant to attach image of renamed directory. Oddly Enough if I select one the actual movie folders as root for my library, the meta data from my folder loads and the movie will play. embyserver.txt Edited March 6, 2019 by dragonkeyper
Luke 42077 Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 Since you've been uninstalling and reinstalling, would you mind trying the beta server and seeing if that's any different? Thanks.
dragonkeyper 1 Posted March 6, 2019 Author Posted March 6, 2019 (edited) I uninstalled Emby server and installed the beta. The beta installed successfully but appears to have the same behavior as the stable release. The beta scanned my Movie directory in about a minute but does not import any movies. I tried adding a actual movie directory as a the root directory of a second library, the movie did not show up in my library until i deleted the the first library i created using my "movies" directory as the root. You will notice in the logs the system complains of a duplicate path, once i deleted the app no longer generated the error and the movie was successfully scraped by the app. embyserver.txt Edited March 6, 2019 by dragonkeyper
rbjtech 5284 Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 (edited) Just as a stab in the dark, is it worth replacing the 'MEDIASERVER' with the IP address instead ? ie \\192.168.1.x\MediaServer\Movies ? I note the servername is the same as the root folder name - it 'may' be confusing things but I'm clutching at straws here ... Edited March 6, 2019 by rbjtech
ebr 16169 Posted March 6, 2019 Posted March 6, 2019 Another stab in the dark - remove the folder you have defined in library setup and then add it back but put a "\" at the end of the path...
dragonkeyper 1 Posted March 6, 2019 Author Posted March 6, 2019 (edited) Another stab in the dark - remove the folder you have defined in library setup and then add it back but put a "\" at the end of the path... Good stab. But adding a "\" at end path did not help either: Edited March 6, 2019 by dragonkeyper

A good stab, but inserting IP instead of sever name did not resolve the issue. Emby could still see the movies but does not import them.
rbjtech 5284 Posted March 7, 2019 Posted March 7, 2019 (edited) so according to a previous screen grab you did - \\mediaserver\mediaserver\ is the actual windows share - and everything below that is just a directory correct ? This should work fine as that is they way I have my share setup and I just point each library to a sub-directory within the share - as you have done for all the other libraries (and that has worked fine which is what is making this a very odd issue to figure out ! ) if you created a 2nd share (say \\mediaserver\movies\), then pointed the movies library to that instead - does that then work ? Ok tried multiple variations of what you suggested Created new directory named "Movie" and moved a few movies to it and set the library up per the norm and named the library "Movies" -- did not work. Created new directory named "Film" and moved a few movies to it and set the library up per the norm and named the library "Movie"-- did not work. Elevated the users permissions and still did not work. Created new directory named "Fickz" and moved a few movies to it and set the library up per the norm but named "MotionPicture" -- this worked!?!? Went back to the previous library and tied renaming the libraries to something other than a variant of "Movie" they still did not work. I used the same movies for each of these test.
rbjtech 5284 Posted March 9, 2019 Posted March 9, 2019 if you type 'net share' on the mediaserver, what do you see ?
ayham002 0 Posted July 18, 2021 Posted July 18, 2021 try to change content type to mixed content (maybe because of subtitle files)....worked for me
