Hi, is the initial library scan still going? have you allowed it to finish?

The initial scan has completed, it was allowed to run to completion.

What library folder did you add to your Movie library? Did you already add the same folder to another library?

dragonkeyper

The folder was added to a library named Movies, it is the only library the folder has been added to.

What is the path to the Movie folder?

Uninstalled Emby, and wrote a web service with a node.js back end based off some code I was running before I stumbled across Kodi.

Really liked the app but randomly not importing an entire directory of over 4K movies is kinda a deal breaker.

It is worth noting I moved I tried  removing the movie library re-naming the movie directory the re-add it using the newly named directory and got nada.

I then created a new directory named Movies2 and any movies added to this directory ( copied directly from directory from which movies failed to import) imported with out issue.

Looks like some one else is having the same exact issue as I. Hope he gets it worked out:

I have a emby server on ubuntu mate 18.10; some days ago I have watched the some movies on certain folder doesn't load to emby metadata. I refreshed uncountable times with the option "Refresh Metadata" and nothing  happends.

For more info I attached the last log info

I imagine the true solution is related to the naming or contents of the problem folder.

My folder structure is as follows:

\\MediaServer\Mediaserver\ + ( Content type I.E TV Shows, Movies, Anime, etc)\Name (year)\title.ext (ie movies are done as such: [REC]⁴ Apocalypse (2014)\[REC]⁴ Apocalypse.mkv

My initial test of Emby worked flawlessly all libraries worked as expected, on my primary server (sever which stores all the content). I decided to remove Emby from my primary server to a dedicated (I.E more powerful sever) this is the point where I began having the issue of Emby not being able to import my movies. Anime, Documentaries, Music and TV Shows seem to import just fine Movies are the only thing that had the hiccup even though they were working previously on another server.

Can you give us a couple of true samples of path/filenames of movies in your library?

Not really seeing anything about \Movies folder but your \Anime bombs out with permissions errors.

System.UnauthorizedAccessException: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path '\\MEDIASERVER\MediaServer\Anime\Yozakura Quartet' is denied

Over 1600 "Access to the path" errors

Yeah that has been corrected as stated in original post. For some reason when I add a hard drive the balancing process marked folders as read only. I have to go back after the fact and provide necessary access.

I'm sorry you feel this is an Emby problem, but the problem is Emby Server is being denied access to query the contents of many of your folders. Notice these errors in your server log:

2019-02-21 11:52:21.102 Info App: Validating media library
2019-02-21 11:52:25.623 Error App: Error resolving path \\MEDIASERVER\MediaServer\Anime\Hunter X Hunter
	*** Error Report ***
	Version: 4.0.2.0
	Command line: C:\Users\dragonkeeper\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\system\EmbyServer.dll -noautorunwebapp
Operating system: Microsoft Windows NT 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1
	64-Bit OS: True
	64-Bit Process: True
	User Interactive: True
	Processor count: 4
	Program data path: C:\Users\dragonkeeper\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\programdata

System.UnauthorizedAccessException: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path '\\MEDIASERVER\MediaServer\Anime\Hunter X Hunter' is denied.
	   at System.IO.Enumeration.FileSystemEnumerator`1.CreateDirectoryHandle(String path, Boolean ignoreNotFound)

If you can fix that, then I imagine the problem would go away.

Is the media on the same machine as the server? If so then I would suggest using the local path rather than the network path.

I explained what was going on with the Anime library when Happy2Help also state that was the problem, why is every one fixated on the Anime library. Where in the logs did a scan of the Movie library occur this is the issue I'm having.

-I have balancing software installed on my server when I install a new hard drive it begins moving files to the new hard drive, and it marks the files read only. I have to go in after the fact and set security/permissions on the folder.

- All the Anime directories have been corrected.

- The only problem I have is with my movie directory which contains 4000+ movies.

- In the logs I posted I see where Emby started and stop watching my movie directory but never imported anything into the library. The same behavior occurs even if I uninstall Emby (including manually remove all registry keys for Emby. And perform a clean install.

-Emby is installed on a separate machine.

- But if I install Emby on the same machine that houses the media I have no issues with the any of the libraries  being scanned.

- On a side note I will be updating the sever, I can get a quad cpu Opteron 6380 system (64 cores @ 2.7Ghz - 64 threads ) for slightly more than i can build a Ryzen 7 2700. which would be better for  for transcoding multiple streams @ 1080P.

OK,  I've just completed a clean install of Windows 7 and freshly installed Emby, still none of my 4000+ movies will not import into the library.
*I installed Emby on another machine and have the same issue, everything else imports but movies will not.
*when i install Emby on the local machine movies import just fine, this indicates it is not an issue with file path or naming conventions.

I'm not sure what else to do so that some one will actually look into this, instead of finding an issue and claiming that issue is the root cause of everything.
Logs attached.

Actually, that doesn't rule out the problem we saw before which is an access problem.  It seems to confirm it as the local machine can access the locations but other machines appear to not be able to.  That sounds a lot like a network access problem.

But I've verified the folder permissions:
- The root folder of my "Movie" Library is set the same as root folder for other libraries that are not having an issue importing data  (Documentaries, TV Shows  etc).
- All my libraries are individual sub-directories of my "Media" directory and the sub-directories are inheriting permissions from the parent directory "Media"

- The user Ebmy is running under has "Modify", "Read & Execute", "List Folder Contents", "Read" and "Write"  permissions set to "Allow" and I am able to navigate to any of the directories in question with out issue including the "Movie" directory.

- So i'm not sure what I'm missing when everyone keeps insisting its a permission issue. Please elaborate on which permission is keeping Emby from importing 1 out of 6 directories that are inheriting their permissions from the same parent directory. And the permissions have been verified to be the same?

- Also I can create a a new directory give it the same permissions as my "Movie" directory copy movies from my Movie "directory to the newly created directory and those same movies import to my Movie Library with out issue.

I know people probably say this a lot but I actually am a Software Developer for a large corporation. I'm not saying that make me an authority by any means it's just that I actually have become a accustom to validating before I raise something as a potential issue. And I have literally already done all the simple things I can think of that would cause this issue.  I was really hoping this was something on my part I was being ignorant about and would have an ah-ha moment when someone pointed out what I had missed. But the only feed back I'm really getting is to check permissions.

** What log, screen shot, etc do I need to post in order to put the "check  permissions" to bed?

Hi there, please open up windows explorer from the same machine that Emby is on and enter this into the path bar:

\\MEDIASERVER\MediaServer\Anime\Hunter X Hunter

Does that work?

Sure what ever you want, but I'm confused.

- I explained why the Anime Library had the errors it had and explained the errors had been corrected.

- I've done a clean install of Windows and freshly installed Emby, the only library I tried to import is Movies. So why are we looking at Anime and not Movies?

- The little app I wrote uses the TMDB api as does EMBY and it has no issues importing my movies (the following apps have no issues importing/scraping my movie directory Kodi, Ember, and Tiny media Manger).

If it sounds like I'm trying to be a smart ass I apologize. I really do like the software and most likely would purchase a license, but for me the software is currently broken and the most recent logs I posted give no indication as to what the issue may be. Its seems like everyone keeps harping on a problem that has already been corrected.

On your library settings - are you saving the metadata local to the Emby installation - the default, or have you ticked the box to store the metadata in the media folders (on the 'media' machine) ?

If saving the metadata local (default) there is no reason at all that the folders need to be read/write - all mine are set to Read Only using a service account - so I know that works perfectly fine.

If on the Emby 'server' you can type the UNC path and 'see' the remote media (and execute/play it if required) then there is zero reason why Emby cannot do the same - as that is exactly what the library scan is doing ..

Hmmm, interesting one.

perhaps check the library settings again - Movies vs all the others to see if anything is different ?

Attached is how my Library paths look as an example.
