Ausley 1 Posted February 21, 2019 Posted February 21, 2019 All special effect of .ass subtitles are disappear in my Android TV app after it's upgraded. It becomes like a pure .srt format. On iSO and window web players, everything seems OK. By the way, the size of font cannot be adjusted with .srt. It looks small. When can font size and color be adjusted?
ebr 16173 Posted February 21, 2019 Posted February 21, 2019 Hi. The player we are using does not support the styling in those subs - only the basic content. Size and color settings are planned for the future. Thanks.
Ausley 1 Posted February 22, 2019 Author Posted February 22, 2019 But the former version before 20th Feb does support the styling except font size is small. Hi. Luke 42077 Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 Can you provide a server log from an example? Thanks.
Ausley 1 Posted February 22, 2019 Author Posted February 22, 2019 Can you provide a server log from an example? Thanks. I attached two log files for your reference. Maybe it's because .ass files are pass through to player to decode. I found all styles are lost in Android TV app including font size, colors in .ass subtitles. In Android mobile and iOS, all font type styles are lost but size/color/position are still valid. I was wrong to say everything in iOS seems OK. Only window web player is normal. Considering the video with .ass subtitle cannot be played smoothly via a server installed in a virtual machine before but it can now without any styling, I guess no transcoding in sever. Now all subtitles look ugly and small. Please help me to find out what's going on. I really like what I had before recent upgrades. Can I force the tanscoding? I can accept to rely on a powerful sever but ugly subtitles. Thanks. embyserver.txt hardware_detection-63686453862.txt
ebr 16173 Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 If you ever saw the styles, it was because they were being burned in on the server.
Ausley 1 Posted February 23, 2019 Author Posted February 23, 2019 If you ever saw the styles, it was because they were being burned in on the server. Are they not now? Can I force to burn them in?
Luke 42077 Posted February 23, 2019 Posted February 23, 2019 Indirectly yes, if you lower the in-app quality setting to a low enough value.
Ausley 1 Posted February 23, 2019 Author Posted February 23, 2019 Indirectly yes, if you lower the in-app quality setting to a low enough value. How? Should I do in player app or in server?
ebr 16173 Posted February 23, 2019 Posted February 23, 2019 How? Should I do in player app or in server? Either one would do it.
Ausley 1 Posted February 24, 2019 Author Posted February 24, 2019 Either one would do it. I tried in app but it didn't work. Could you let me know how to do from server?
ebr 16173 Posted February 24, 2019 Posted February 24, 2019 I think we are setup to avoid burning in subs at all costs now and, the only way it would happen would be with graphic subs combined with a transcode/remux.
Ausley 1 Posted February 25, 2019 Author Posted February 25, 2019 I think we are setup to avoid burning in subs at all costs now and, the only way it would happen would be with graphic subs combined with a transcode/remux. It sounds bad. Currently font size cannot be adjusted in plain subs. It looks too small and ugly. Can you give users an option to decide to burn subs in or not?
Ausley 1 Posted February 25, 2019 Author Posted February 25, 2019 I attach two screen shots to show how different subs looks like in past and now. It used to be and is supposed to be like this: but it looks like this now
ebr 16173 Posted February 25, 2019 Posted February 25, 2019 So, if we just give you the ability to increase the subtitle font size, that will solve it for you?
Ausley 1 Posted February 26, 2019 Author Posted February 26, 2019 So, if we just give you the ability to increase the subtitle font size, that will solve it for you? It could be helpful but I still prefer to support all styling rather font size. I tried to use 3rd party player like MXPlayer but the server burnt subs in and steamed to MXPlayer which was not smooth. If I use MXPlayer directly, there is no problem. I have to give up the idea and roll back to old version Emby for Android TV 1.6.79g.
rain.men 0 Posted June 6, 2020 Posted June 6, 2020 Are there any updates to this? Stylized subtitles still are inconsistent across different devices whether transcoded or direct play. On my HP Envy laptop, the subtitle is positioned correctly but it seems not to be using the correct font (font is attached to .mkv file). But in my other devices (Android and ROG Laptop) it works perfectly.
ebr 16173 Posted June 6, 2020 Posted June 6, 2020 Position is supported, styles are not at this time. If you desire the styling, there is an option in the app to have the server burn them in.
