Any chance of adding a scaling option for the Android client to scale 16:9 video to fit on modern 18:9 ratio devices by cropping the top/bottom of the video rather than stretching?

It's not.

 

Zooming the image so that the horizontal axis takes up the entire width of the screen without adjusting the vertical will mess up the aspect ratio. This is what the current "fill" option does.

The amount of screen lost "off the edge" of the top and bottom of the screen tends to be miniscule, and there's rarely if ever anything important gone as a result, making (for me at least) the video more watchable as I can now watch it in the correct aspect ratio, while using the entirety of the screen on my device.

 

VLC can do this, Netflix can do this, YouTube can do this. Plex can't (and indeed, they appear to be refusing to implement it), and so far, Emby can't.

 

If it could be implemented as an option (NOT as the default as some people seem to be worried about) then that'd be great.

The Emby web app will have aspect ratio adjustment in the video player in the upcoming Emby Server 4.3 release. Thanks.

If it's filling an 18:9 screen, then the aspect ratio is wrong because the aspect ratio should be 16:9.

I didn't say aspect ratio, I said ratio. A circle will still be a circle in this instance. OP is from 9 months ago, I've since moved on.
