kahuna71 0 Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 I recently installed emby to replace plex. I had originally stored all my media in a 'media' directory in Dropbox C:\Users\kjimedia\Dropbox (KJI)\media\movies C:\Users\kjimedia\Dropbox (KJI)\media\music C:\Users\kjimedia\Dropbox (KJI)\media\tv C:\Users\kjimedia\Dropbox (KJI)\media\homevideos I had it setup that way because at one point Plex offered a service Cloud Server setup that allowed for the Plex library to access directories in Dropbox directly. It made it easier to access my movies when I wasn't at home over most any WiFi network. Once Plex retired that service I found Emby as a potential alternative. On my Windows 10 Pro pc, I installed the Emby Server and was happy that it actually scanned and made available more media files than Plex. I installed plugin to help update metadata and Dropbox. I also had the NFO plugin and it seemed to place '.nfo' files in place of every media file and move all my media files to my Dropbox app directory. https://www.dropbox.com/home/Apps/KJI_Media https://www.dropbox.com/home/Apps/KJI_Media/movies https://www.dropbox.com/home/Apps/KJI_Media/music https://www.dropbox.com/home/Apps/KJI_Media/tv https://www.dropbox.com/home/Apps/KJI_Media/homevideos I'm wondering if there is a way to have Emby access the media files from Dropbox either using the URL or Link created by the Share function in Dropbox or by using the local directory path C:\Users\kjimedia\Dropbox (KJI)\Apps\KJI_Media C:\Users\kjimedia\Dropbox (KJI)\Apps\KJI_Media\movies C:\Users\kjimedia\Dropbox (KJI)\Apps\KJI_Media\music C:\Users\kjimedia\Dropbox (KJI)\Apps\KJI_Media\tv C:\Users\kjimedia\Dropbox (KJI)\Apps\KJI_Media\homevideos Admittedly, I'm a bit out of my depth here. So any help would be appreciated. I have shared the AppKey and PrivateKey and established communication between Emby and Dropbox by creating a Dropbox app. Thank you Gerald
Luke 42079 Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 Hi, there's no way to have it use the Dropbox api, no. Emby Theater for windows can use the local directory path it has direct access to the media. Please let us know if this helps. Thanks.
newwave 0 Posted May 2, 2022 Posted May 2, 2022 There are actually two ways of getting Emby to read files directly from Any Cloud Storage ... 1. You can subscribe to a software called "RaiDrive" (very cheap) and mount DropBox as a Local Drive, this will allow you to connect Emby to it and it would play direcctly from your DropBox. Using this software it actually uses less Temp Storage than the DropBox App without the need of Downloading the file to your local storage before playing this will automatically stream from DropBox. 2. The second option would be to use RClone which is Free however it requires you to have to set your mounts up in the Command Prompt (DOS). Though this option is free, it's best to research it fully to see if you are able to understand the process of connecting your cloud storage and mouting it as a volume on your computer. Hope this helps :)
