mbguy 40 Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 (edited) When browsing to a network folder, it shows "..." instead of network shares. What's really annoying is, all previous paths saved using network shares like this are no longer updating its changes during library scan. What does this feature keep breaking every few cycles? It broke before but it was fixed a while later. Is this going to take a long time to fix again? Should I change all my Folder paths to local folders instead of network shares? Luke 42077 Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 Seems to be fine here in my testing. You can always enter the path manually. @@softworkz
softworkz 5066 Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 Should I change all my Folder paths to local folders instead of network shares? Using network shares mapped to a local drive letter will give you better performance, so the answer is definitely yes. 1

Sorry could you clarify what you meant? Which setup of folder provides better performance? 1. \\Server\Movies 2. D:\Movies

The only way I was able to get Emby to detect the changes were to change the path to local path D:\movies I had none of these issues for many versions of Emby until 4.02.

Sometimes Giving smb://sharename will show your shares. But this is working fine here. Edited February 21, 2019 by EODCrafter
Diedrich 377 Posted February 21, 2019 Posted February 21, 2019 (edited) What is the source OS & version for your network share? Edited February 21, 2019 by Diedrich
Carlo 4560 Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 Some versions of windows can be finicky with SMB while other versions just seem to work. Depends on "home networking" settings as well. As softworkz was saying: Create a drive letting in Windows for the EXTERNAL mapped UNC. So you could create Drive E pointed to PC1, Drive F pointed to PC2, etc... This way if you can view the local mapped drive then Emby WILL see the contents as well. 2

mbguy 40 Posted February 22, 2019 Author Posted February 22, 2019 Thanks for the clarifcation everyone, from now on, I will map network drives to local folders. I know this is not a Windows 10 forum, but any Windows users here who have experienced a similar problem? When I go to Network shares? The list of shared folders are not coming up? I suspect some networking settings are broken on my Windows 10.
ryandavidg 30 Posted February 22, 2019 Posted February 22, 2019 I had issues with that on one Windows 10 machine, in terms of displaying network locations when browsing, but typing in the \\server\share would still work and map the drive. I also had issues with one older network drive where I ended up having to tinker with the smb version in Windows using powershell, but that's a whole other can of worms. So I certainly agree that Windows 10 can be finicky in this area. 1

mbguy 40 Posted February 22, 2019 Author Posted February 22, 2019 Not sure what I did, rebooted the machine, now I can see all the network drives. Another strange thing is now happening, I have successfully mapped a shared drive to Z: and I can browse successfully using Windows Explorer, but when I attempt to add this folder in Emby I don't see the mapped drive Z: Why is this happening and what else can I do?

Might be a Permission issue if it's a Linux OS. Also worth noting...Network Propagation does take some time so shares might not be instantly available. Edited February 22, 2019 by EODCrafter

Is Emby running as a service or user after logging in? If user, did you map the drives using this SAME USER? If using the same username, then Emby should see all drive mapping that you can see as that user when using Windows Explorer.

I guess I am running Emby as a user, as I haven't done anything described here: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Running%20Emby%20Server%20as%20a%20Windows%20Service When you say "username" do you mean in Emby Server > Users, I should create the same username as my Windows User?
