Instant Mix not working

Howdy! Hope everyone is well today.

 

I am running the latest stable server 4.0.2.0. I mostly listen to music via the web app on my imac using safari. I have a ton of music of all different types. I seem to be running into a problem though where when I click on "instant mix" all it does is play the song I selected instant mix from, but never populates anything else. When I try this on iOS, it works just fine. Is there something broken with the web app?

Because the queue only shows one song, and when that song plays, that’s it no more tunes

I just tested this and it seems to be working just fine. Is it possible that what you're instant mixing on does not have a whole lot of similar titles?

Ok, I think I see whats going on.

 

Let's say I am browsing Marilyn Manson. If i select instant mix from the artist page, it will load a playlist with all sorts of music. GREAT!

 

Now lets say I pick a specific song, like "disposable Teens". If i select "instant mix" from the music file itself, it will only play that song and will not generate a playlist of similar tracks.

 

Shouldn't the instant mix work no matter if I invoke it from the artist page or directly from the music file?

Yes of course, and does work like I just mentioned above. But this feature depends on your audio metadata. If you don't have any similar tracks, then that is why this might be happening.

I have all of Mansons albums, if I pick one song and ask it to do an instant mix, shouldn't it at the least do other Manson songs?

 

When I do instant shuffle at the artist level, boy howdy does it find "similar" things to play. i spent about 20 minutes going through one song at a time doing instant mix, and not one produced a playlist at the song level. I've sampled songs all across my library and none of them seem to ever make a mix playlist I understand how its suppose to work, but no way with my music collection is there no other song "like" the song I am using as the base of the "instant mix"

Depends. Are they tagged with artists and genres?

Yes, I have tagged everything with musicbrainz picard. All have artist, album and genre in their tags.

How did you confirm that?

I checked the tags for the songs using mp3 tag and music brainz, and checking in emby it does recognize the songs and their tags.

MetaData Manger. Checked each individual song, and saw in the metadata it had picked up and transposed the tags just as I had tagged them in MusicBrainz

If you mean it shows all the correct info, like album, disc number, artist, etc yes all there.

Not sure it will make a difference but i would suggest trying again with the next release of emby server, thanks.

i'm on 4.7.13.0 and the exact same thing is happening to me:
- if i select a track and choose "instant mix", only that track will play. nothing else will be added to the queue.
- if i go to the artist page and select "instant mix" from the artist, i will get a bunch of songs in the playlist.

all my files are properly tagged, i have more than 19000 songs in the library. it does work when i start the instant mix from the artist but it never works if i select it from a song. it can be music by madonna or scar tissue by red hot chilli peppers and even though i have hundreds of similar songs in my library, i don't get any hits in the playlist unless i start the instant mix from the artist page. it just won't work for me on songs.

p.s. it works well with both albums and artists - if i select instant mix from an artist or album, i get tons of hits in the playlist.
it also works when i'm in the playlist and select a track (in that playlist) and choose instant mix. it then generates a new instant mix from that track.
BUT if i choose the "instant mix" from a song in the library or from now playing - only that song plays.
i think that's pretty specific. could it be a bug when an "instant mix" is chosen from a track that's in the library but not from a track that is already on the playlist?

i removed it and went to jellyfin. it has a similar thing that works.
if it works for you and it doesn't work for me, it must have been a bug at my side. i just wanted to know if that's something that's known of.
i didn't want to debug this for hours, i'm already doing other things and this small problem is really not worth it.
none of the setups really work with how i listen to my music, so that little "mix" thing would have helped to actually incorporate my music to emby.
