crusher11 1101 Posted February 12, 2019 Posted February 12, 2019 I get a timeout error every time, including at Can You See Me. Have manually forwarded the correct port.
Luke 42078 Posted February 12, 2019 Posted February 12, 2019 Hi there, i would suggest checking out our Connection Troubleshooter. Please try the steps listed there and let us know which ones succeed, and which ones do not. Thanks !

Thanks !I'm aware of that page, that's why I mentioned having manually forwarded the port and Can You See Me timing out.
Luke 42078 Posted February 13, 2019 Posted February 13, 2019 And what about the results of the other steps?
crusher11 1101 Posted February 13, 2019 Author Posted February 13, 2019 And what about the results of the other steps?Which other steps? Setting up port forwarding and testing it via Can You See Me are the only solutions listed. It doesn't work. Connecting internally is working perfectly.
crusher11 1101 Posted February 13, 2019 Author Posted February 13, 2019 Unsurprisingly this still isn't working after the update. Local is fine, but remote connections time out.
Luke 42078 Posted February 13, 2019 Posted February 13, 2019 Are you certain the remote address you're testing with is correct? where did you get it from? I understand you want to believe there is an Emby problem here, but ultimately this is going to come down to something blocking the connection that needs to be unblocked. Thanks.

I'm using the WAN address on the Dashboard. Plex never managed to connect remotely either, so it's probably not Emby-specific but you'd have a better idea than I would of what the possibilities are in terms of router settings or whatever else.
crusher11 1101 Posted February 14, 2019 Author Posted February 14, 2019 Are you using a VPN or reverse proxy? Not that I'm aware of.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted February 14, 2019 Posted February 14, 2019 Can you explain your network setup.
EODCrafter 181 Posted February 14, 2019 Posted February 14, 2019 (edited) I was just testing cause I usually don't have my Emby open Publicly and couldn't connect. I went into my router and disabled UPnP, then manually forwarded 8096 in port forward and it connected right away! (NightHawk Router) Edited February 14, 2019 by EODCrafter
crusher11 1101 Posted February 14, 2019 Author Posted February 14, 2019 Can you explain your network setup. Not unless you ask something more specific, because I'm not sure what there is to explain. I have a router, it connects to the internet? I was just testing cause I usually don't have my Emby open Publicly and couldn't connect. I went into my router and disabled UPnP, then manually forwarded 8096 in port forward and it connected right away! (NightHawk Router) No dice. Although disabling UPnP doesn't remove the pre-existing Emby PnP rules.
Angus Black 5 Posted February 14, 2019 Posted February 14, 2019 Do you have anything set up that works outside your LAN? FTP, web server, NAS?
maegibbons 1287 Posted February 14, 2019 Posted February 14, 2019 @@crusher11 You seem to be suffering from a good degree of networking ignorance. My best suggestion is that you solicit your friends for knowledge in these things to try and assist you. Otherwise pay for a local computer guy to help.. Krs Mark
crusher11 1101 Posted February 14, 2019 Author Posted February 14, 2019 And it seems you're suffering from a condescending attitude. I'm having problems specifically with Emby, people who use Emby are far more likely to quickly diagnose the problem, or make helpful suggestions, than some random. That's how forums about things work.
Angus Black 5 Posted February 14, 2019 Posted February 14, 2019 You have to help us first. Can you answer my question above?
crusher11 1101 Posted February 14, 2019 Author Posted February 14, 2019 Sorry, I must have missed that. I can obviously connect to the internet for normal browsing or whatever else. That's the extent of it though.
Angus Black 5 Posted February 14, 2019 Posted February 14, 2019 It's very difficult to diagnose without knowing a lot more about your Internet connection and LAN. What we know; - You can't connect to Emby nor Plex from outside your LAN. - You don't think you're using a NPN or reverse proxy. - You entered some port forwarding numbers in your router. Can you show a screen shot of your port forwarding info? Crop out the last 3-6 digits of your IP address, for privacy. What is the router make/model?

Port forwarding and UPnP attached.

LOL, We can't "connect" to your Local IPs, no use in blacking those out ...IE 192.168.1.105. Is that what your trying to connect to as external? Google "whatsmyip" and put that Number in a browser followed by :8096 and see what happens...P.S. Don't share that number! What's that *Secure Mode in the Router? Is that essentially a router firewall blocking weird things like Emby perhaps? Edited February 14, 2019 by EODCrafter
Angus Black 5 Posted February 14, 2019 Posted February 14, 2019 I see a thread on the Plex forum where someone is explaining why MyRepublic customers have this problem. Does your Remote (WAN) IP start with 100.? ie: 100.123.234.### You can see your Remote (WAN) main screen of the Emby Dashboard. You may have to pay for a static IP from MyRepublic. 1

The whatsmyip IP is the one listed in the Dashboard as my WAN address, that's why I've been trying to connect to. Is that what I should be forwarding the port to? Or do I have that correct? No idea what secure mode is. I see a thread on the Plex forum where someone is explaining why MyRepublic customers have this problem. Angus Black 5 Posted February 14, 2019 Posted February 14, 2019 LOL, We can't "connect" to your Local IPs, no use in blacking those out . I asked him to block out the IP just in case he was using his WAN IP rather than a LAN IP. All we need to see is the 192.168. anyway.
