I formally request that your Android TV application use your own player to not depend on third parties, such as google or nvidia. In this way, problems such as those that occur when playing 4K HDR cropped movies will be avoided.

We are always working on improving playback in the app, thanks.

I second this. Exoplayer has become very unreliable and problematic. Its really ruining what a fantastic system Emby is and can be. I have resorted to using another software until either Exoplayer is fixed (highly unlikely) or Emby abandons it. Im at the point where I would donate towards the development of Emby's own player.

Sadly, there is nothing wrong with Emby and this isn't their fault but relying on Exoplayer is proving to be a terrible decision.

I also back this, maybe a forked expo player similar to how plex fixes the short comings of the original.

Not sure there are the resources within the Emby dev team to either fork EXOPLAYER and have it working with Emby, or to write a new player from scratch.

I think people underestimate the amount of work required to develop or even maintain a platform dependent video player. Between Exo, VLC, and mpv (all of which have their own development team) none of them do both HDR and and HD Audio passthrough properly but from the 3 Exo comes the closest. You might say but yeah Kodi can do it, but look at the size of the Kodi project and the history of development done on it. If it were easy to write a video player I'm sure the Emby devs would have already done it.

The better option would be to work with Google to fix the cropped video HDR bug. Plex found a work around so it is possible. Or maybe even work with the MrMC folk to improve Emby integration into their app to take full advantage of Emby.

Isnt the Apple TV using a player written by the Emby team?

set up a pull request for the forked and maintained version of exo.  I'm sure the devs would love the additional contributions.

No, the latest version of the Apple TV app is using the MPV video player, same as on iOS.
