Pog22 52 Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 (edited) I have started a new library with just 4k movies some of which already exist in the library in 1080p. To do this with radarr requires you save the 4k to a different location otherwise it'll just overwrite the existing 1080p. On a scan Emby is adding the 4k version as a new movie. How do I merge the 2? Edited February 9, 2019 by colfin22
crusher11 1101 Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 (edited) https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Movie-naming See "Multi-version movies". Alternatively, multi-select both and select "group versions". Edited February 9, 2019 by crusher11 1
Pog22 52 Posted February 9, 2019 Author Posted February 9, 2019 So I can't merge the two if I keep 4k in another location like Plex can?
crusher11 1101 Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 Yes you can, multi-select and then choose "group versions". 1
Pog22 52 Posted February 9, 2019 Author Posted February 9, 2019 Yes you can, multi-select and then choose "group versions". That's perfect thanks
lorac 118 Posted February 10, 2019 Posted February 10, 2019 Multi select where? Not understanding this really. I get the multiple naming convention according to the wiki but that's too much of a PIA at times.
Luke 42080 Posted February 10, 2019 Posted February 10, 2019 Try left clicking and holding on a poster to show the multi-select tool. In the future you'll have no problem locating this feature because it will just be part of the overlay. However having said that, i would suggest grouping them via multi-version file naming instead of this, if at all possible.
crusher11 1101 Posted February 10, 2019 Posted February 10, 2019 I have a related question: what determines which is the default version?
Luke 42080 Posted February 10, 2019 Posted February 10, 2019 There isn't really a constant default. Generally it is the highest quality version with the most efficient means of playback. So taking into consideration server settings, app settings, and app capabilities, it gives priority to what will direct play over what will require transcoding.
crusher11 1101 Posted February 10, 2019 Posted February 10, 2019 What if I had identically-encoded different cuts though?
Luke 42080 Posted February 10, 2019 Posted February 10, 2019 You can still do that. You may just find the default a little unpredictable though.
Pog22 52 Posted February 10, 2019 Author Posted February 10, 2019 However having said that, i would suggest grouping them via multi-version file naming instead of this, if at all possible. Unfortunately for me my collection already has ~3000 movies without the quality in the title. Making a second collection of 4k is much simpler. Would it be ever be possible to suggest merging of movies in future?

How do I merge the 2? Going forward, once you have the versions you want in the same folder, unmonitor the movie in Radarr. Makes life easier in Emby. Radarr needs to better manage multi-versions, for which a FR has been raised, but no traction from the developers as yet.

crusher11 1101 Posted February 10, 2019 Posted February 10, 2019 As a more specific example: I have the Alien Quadrilogy. I want to set Alien and Aliens to default to the Theatrical Cut, Alien 3 to default to the Assembly Cut, and Alien: Resurrection to...actually I don't care, I'm never gonna watch it. Beats trying to keep track of which is the best cut for films that have more than one.

A_Aron 1 Posted May 18, 2020 Posted May 18, 2020 This is awesome, thanks! Is there a plugin that detects screen resolution and will play that version? For example, if you are on a 1080p TV, it will play the 1080 version, if you are on a 4k TV, the 4k version... Plex added this recently, and I've really grown to like it.

We will already automatically select the most optimal version for the app that you're playing from.
kingy444 117 Posted May 20, 2020 Posted May 20, 2020 Could this be added as an option at the library level? Just a tick box to 'Automatically group multiple versions of the same movie' ? I prefer to keep the 4K content seperate, and while i understand i can click and do this manually - i like it doing it itself I store meta locally, and dont care if its in both folders, just like if Emby could be smart enough to group the same movie - even if someone could write a plugin ?
