neither the switch nor NIC's play any role in SMB3.0. you just need more than one network connection on each device the OS will (or rather should) handle the rest.

No no no, lol, what I mean is the switch nor the NIC's have any effect on if SMB3.0 works or not.  Any switch should work just fine.

Correct, doesn't even need to be a dual port card, just more than one NIC in general.

If you're talking about copper cards I believe they may be.  All my 10Gb experience is on optical stuff.

i have a intel x540-t2 in my desktop and server for 10g - and each has two 1g nics which are turned off

 

as i said i think MP is working - but currently i can't saturate the network with my setup

 

But what i do see is

 

 

Minimal cpu and both 10g nics sending data - one at 1.5gbps and the other at 2.4gps - usually they are approx equal just a timing thing when i took the image

 

this i assume is the mp working @@JeremyFr79 is that what you see?

yes they will work at 1g if connected to a 1g switch as a 1g would to a 100mbit switch

As for 10G NICs, some are copper only and some are optical only, some have both and many are SFP+ allowing you to do either or.  Like I said most of my experience is with Optical due to all my years in data-centers and that being the cabling of choice to eliminate possible interference issues etc.  Plus optical is easier to run long runs in a data-center.

As for CPU usage I see about a 5% hit during MP on my X5570 which is OC'd to 4.03Ghz.

well after much advice of members of the forum, I finally upgraded to a rack system - order this off e-bay got a great deal, still needs a little work but,  now who's got the biggest computer in there home... :-)

 

 

What do you think this thing will stream at  LMAO  I had to guys  its a shame what i have,  its about the same age...

Yup looks like MP is working like it should.

 

This is still only Windows to Windows though as far as I know.  

 

Linux Samba is still being worked on.

Where did you get a picture of my computer room... looks like this guy could keep the Zip-tie company in business for the next 20 years  and I thought my net work cabling was bad.. How in the world could you track down a problem cable or anything else in that - could you think of  the next IT guy coming in .. WoW isn't the word I'm thinking.

I was looking to do something interesting and different with my data servers (PCs). I have had proper servers in the past but they were very noisy and took up a lot of space. I have seen people use these open cases for liquid cooling but I wanted to build a file server.

 

After about two months of contemplating I just decided to build one. The first one was the red one, it looked so cool to me that I decided to build two more and redo my whole office area (well, corner of the basement). I took a picture at an angle so you can see how the drives are mounted. There is 40TB in the red one and 30TB in the blue. I run Windows 10 Pro and use StableBit to manage the drives. I also run several VM's across the two.The Emby server is one of the VM's. All systems run Gen 4 i7’s, much of the guts I already had up and running in older full tower cases. The one on the left is my main PC used for light gaming and VPN for work.

All the wiring, switches, and whatnot run into cabinets above the PC’s. The cable management is just acceptable and not “cable porn” worthy so I did not bother taking a picture of it. I will take some pics of my home theater and share soon. Enjoy.

That is EFFING cool! I've thought about doing an open case, too. Lots of air! lol
