shaefurr 1340 Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 Finally out of my contract with terrible centurylink so I switched to Comcast. What annoys me about centurylink is you pay for say 40/5 MB and what you really get is something much lower. Anyway new modem comes in today, post a new speedtest when its hooked up, it should be around 200/10MB, and I got a new AC router yesterday to replace my ancient N model. It was working ok but the nexus player in the back of my apartment had issues streaming over the wifi. Probably due to the 2.4GHz band in my building being flooded with about 16 wireless networks. There's only a few on the 5Ghz band though. 1

I chose this modem, as it gives me a lot of channels, so my bandwidth doesn't get eaten up. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01DACQM9M/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1480437701&sr=8-2&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=linksys+modem&dpPl=1&dpID=41pLwVAwBwL&ref=plSrch
mediacowboy 438 Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 (edited) I have that same router and love it. I bought mine on sale and it came with a 8 port switch for 25 dollars cheaper. This is the switch I got when I bought my router. Edited November 29, 2016 by mediacowboy

Guest asrequested Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 Are you gonna be using a Comcast modem?
shaefurr 1340 Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 (edited) Are you gonna be using a Comcast modem?Yeah for a few months I have to lease one. Spent waaay to much elsewhere on black friday so I'm tapped out for now lol. I'll take any suggestions for a modem though, I hate wasting money leasing one so I want to get one asap. One you linked is fairy cheap compared to the ezpensive ARRIS ones. Sent from my VS990 using Tapatalk Edited November 29, 2016 by shaefurr

It's growing! The list, that is. Yeah, Comcast uses the arris, too. But I didn't like mine. I prefer the modem I bought.
shaefurr 1340 Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 (edited) Yeah they sent me an Arris, but im not going to pay $10 every month for it. I'll be replacing it soon. Finally got it up and running, dumb thing was being a POS and kept getting stuck setting up the wireless which you HAVE to do the first time to get it up and running. Anyway turned the wifi off on it, have 24 channels down and 4 up. Nice results so far compared to the shit I had this morning from centurylink. And its less per month Centurylink Xfinity Edited November 29, 2016 by shaefurr 1

That's the same bandwidth I have, but I'd like more on the upload Yeah same here, wish they had some kind of fiber connection here, but all they have is Centurylinks fiber for business. But hey it worked streaming to 3 outside devices on 3mb so 12 is a hella lot better for now at least.
Guest asrequested Posted November 29, 2016 Posted November 29, 2016 If you end up buying the Linksys modem, it's hassle free. All I did was plug it in. It activated and registered itself.

And its less per month Xfinity Been having that speed for a couple months, reasons y they upped the speed finally is bc Comcast got sued for misadvertised a product and so they upped everyone's speed. Sometimes I get high as 237.44MBS DL and roughly the same with upload, highest upload I've seen is 12.66MBS UL Usually my Ping is 16 If it wasn't for that one ignorant person preventing us to get Fiber Cable in the ground, I would join Google Fiber Last Year. Wow, Xfinity must have goofy plans in other states, I would expect your guys upstream to be more than 12.. I have the 120meg plan and i get a pretty steady 24-25meg upstream.. A company just deployed fiber in my neighborhood but they currently only offer 100/10 which is confusing to me... They said they could give me business 100/100 for 300/month, told them i would go with 2 gig xfinity if i wanted a second car payment.... So hopefully they figure out their pricing and come down.... It will be hard to switch i've always had good luck with xfinity/comcast internet. Edited November 30, 2016 by pir8radio
denz 501 Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 I am one of the lucky ones in Australian who has fibre to the home and my speed is 100down and 40up. I am surprised that most of you have such a high download but such a low upload.
Guest asrequested Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 (edited) I suspect it's because the majority of people don't use much upload bandwidth. So the ISPs focus on the demand. Edited November 30, 2016 by Doofus
