dm9656 1 Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 Hi, I have had several "legacy" collections (with [boxset] in the folder name) and when I decided to remove the collections (the same way I'd remove a "metadata only" collection), it deleted all the subfolders and their contents (leaving behind the collection folder, btw) ! Some of these deleted files were very rare contents that can not be easily found. The warning did not explicitely mention deleting all the contents (but I might be mistaken; anyway it happened), so I find the general capacity of Emby to simply delete media files incredibly dangerous. There should be a general (or per-library) option to prevent Emby from deleting media files at all. So, I suggest a general or per-library option to prevent Emby from deleting media files. As a remark: this is different from "mounting library folders as read-only" as we might still want Emby to store metadata and artwork files into the folders for practical reasons. It is just about Emby ever touching the original media files... Thanks David 1
ebr 16184 Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 Hi. There is already a per user setting for delete privileges. As for your particular issue, we haven't supported the file-structure based box sets for a while so what you had was just a folder of movies and you asked to delete it. We'd like to improve this functionality to be more specific about what will be deleted in the future.
Happy2Play 9780 Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 What server version are you on? But yes this was a issue in reference to legacy collections.
dm9656 1 Posted February 9, 2019 Author Posted February 9, 2019 Hi, Thanks for your replies. Where is the per user option ? I am on server 3.5.3.0 on Freenas. Thanks David Envoyé de mon SM-N950F en utilisant Tapatalk
dm9656 1 Posted February 9, 2019 Author Posted February 9, 2019 Oh and just for making things specific : yes, this happened when I was in the Collections menu and asked to delete a collection... Unfortunately this specific collection was based on the legacy folder structure, but it did not appear nor behaved differently from a "new" collection deletion... Happy2Play 9780 Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 Going forward v4 this will not happen as all legacy Collections (folder/metadata/images) are ignored. The folder is treated as any a folder. All collections images and metadata are in \programdata\data\collections. So all legacy collections need to be recreated. 1

Angus Black 5 Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 To answer your question "Where is the per user option ?" In each users Profile under Allow Media Deletion From. You select the Libraries you want that user to be able to delete files from. 1

GreyBeard 22 Posted February 9, 2019 Posted February 9, 2019 Collections and Playlists are user resources, so all users are currently allowed to create/edit/delete them. This is why I think collections should be separate from boxsets. I like that my family can create their own collections of movies and/or tv shows they like but a boxset of movies is and always will be that boxset, not a collection of arbitrary items created by a user or even me.

Back to terminology. But yes there are Collections and there are Lists (TMDB terminology). Marvel Universe is a List of movies, where the Thor Collection is that specific set. Now how do you differentiate between system and user Collections?

Seems pretty simple, collections should have an owner. In reality, my daughter has no interest in my sons collections nor does any of my extended family that use the server just as he doesn't want to see hers. Anyone that is an administrator should have the option to make a collection into a "system" collection thereby changing the owner. All users can see system collections as well as their own. Honestly though, I'd also like to have "system" collections or as a separate library from user collections. Perhaps using their terminology we have Collections (system owned) and Lists (user owned). Personal Collections maybe?

Angus Black 5 Posted February 10, 2019 Posted February 10, 2019 It's in the Server settings. It can be set for each user. 1
