Questions about "People"

Couple of issues.

1. Is there a way to control (automatically, obviously it can be done manually) whether People are tied to a show, episode, or season, and have them show up in lower tiers? ie someone could be assigned to a show and all its seasons and 96 of its 100 episodes. At the moment clicking on Brian Blessed only shows that he was in Blackadder as a whole, and one episode of QI. I'd rather it told me he was in Blackadder season 1, and listed each episode in which he appeared.

2. Is there a way to reorder people? Currently the first person listed for House is Olivia Wilde, followed by Peter Jacobsen, which is bad enough as they were only in the second half of the series, but immediately after that is Odette Annable and Charlyne Yi. Hugh Laurie is billed 8th.

3. At what level are pictures handled? The overall database level, library level, show/movie level? On my People list for House is Hugh Laurie, in his Prince George Blackadder getup. It looks ridiculous.

4. Is it possible to insert pictures manually? For actors without a picture, or for people without a database entry anywhere (sportspeople in sports games, for example).

Hi

1 - this is dependant on TVDB metadata - so if its missing an actor then its missing from TVDB

2. Nope - other than delete them and re add them or re order them in the nfo - both a tedious process - again they are shown in the order specified from tvdb

So you could update the TVDB if the Show is not locked as TVDB can be a bit inflexible when it comes to edits

3. One picture per actor

4a. yes click on the ... menu of the actor and edit images

4b you can add as many actors as you like - again use the ... menu of the Movie/Show/Episode/Season etc you wish to add to.

Can I merge people? I made typing errors entering NBA players manually, and fixing the typo doesn't make the picture show up. All the other pictures show up in every entry as soon as they're set once (which could itself be an issue if multiple people have the same name).

Is there a way to semi-automate listings? Kick everyone in the series into each season, edit that, kick them all into each episode, edit that? More work than scraping, but less work than editing everyone in completely manually, especially as the ones I'd be editing in ought to be at the front of the list.

No - but did you run the people scheduled task after making changes? This clears up orphaned people (not tagged to any media)

You need to add a picture to the edited player name as its seen as a diff person as diff name - unless its found by the lookup which it sounds like it not

semi-automate - sorry nope

Multi editing is something that's been suggested is coming or a good idea for the future (geological time) - search the feature request sub forum and add your support to a feature request etc

You could do this with a script or use the Emby API if you have the skills

So I tried setting some of this up manually, but it turns out that when you go to a person's page, it only shows Shows and Episodes, not Seasons. Why is this?

That's just never come up before.

Can't see why it'd be any different?

If I search for Brian Blessed I'd rather see "Blackadder Season 1" than every episode individually. In that case it's only six, but for, say, Olivia Wilde in House, she had four seasons in which she appeared in every episode, and another in which she featured in at least half. That's 100 episodes or so, it'd take forever to go through. Easier to list "House, Season 4", "House, Season 5", "House, Season 6", "House, Season 8", and then the dozen or so season seven episodes she was in.

Even better: QI. Stephen Fry appeared in every single episode of the first 13 seasons. Listing them all individually would be a massive waste of time. Much easier to drop him in at the season level for all 13 and have them show up that way.

Each to their own but I personally would rather just see the series there.

How is that helpful if they were on;y in, say, half the seasons?

I guess it just depends on what level of detail you want. Most of the time I think it's just nice to know an actor appeared in a show. If it's a guest star that only appeared in a few episodes, then i can see what in their episodes list.

Some shows run long enough to completely overhaul the cast, though (NCIS, House). Others have characters introduced in later seasons become main stars for later seasons (Big Bang Theory). Some even have almost no relation between seasons (Blackadder).
