horstepipe 422 Posted February 6, 2019 Posted February 6, 2019 Hey Just caught my eye that some of my shows got different genres then their corresponding episodes. So this could have happened because I manually changed the genres of the shows, naturally expecting that this will change the genres of their episodes, too. Is this expected behavior at all? Why should it be possible that e.g. Westworld S01E01 got the genre ‚Sci-fi & Fantasy‘ while the show Westworld got the genre ‚Science-Fiction‘? Shouldn’t the episodes just reference the genres of their show? Emby Server 4.0.1.0 Best regards
PenkethBoy 2068 Posted February 6, 2019 Posted February 6, 2019 No as the episodes have individual metadata and as part of that they have Genres there is no link between the two They would have to be changed on TVDB - and good luck with that
horstepipe 422 Posted February 6, 2019 Author Posted February 6, 2019 No as the episodes have individual metadata and as part of that they have Genres yeah but that doesn't make sense. TVDB doesn't have a genre field for individual episodes, either. If the user changes the genre of a show, he expects that the genres of all corresponding episodes are being changed, too.
ebr 16185 Posted February 6, 2019 Posted February 6, 2019 We don't expect episodes to have genres at all. Where did those come from? 1
horstepipe 422 Posted February 6, 2019 Author Posted February 6, 2019 We don't expect episodes to have genres at all. Where did those come from? Looks like they're coming from OMDB
ebr 16185 Posted February 6, 2019 Posted February 6, 2019 None of my episodes have ever had genres defined. Not sure how your's do but your assumption, I believe, would be incorrect anyway. If episodes have specific genres defined to them, changing a parent's genre should not change the underlying episodes. If that were the assumption, there would be no point in having the genre on the episode in the first place. IOW - the only reason to define a genre at an episode level would be for it to be different from it's parent. 1
horstepipe 422 Posted February 6, 2019 Author Posted February 6, 2019 I see... okay but there's still the core problem (just verified on a fresh Windows test instance): If you enable OMDB metadata scraping for episodes, your episodes get a genre. As most people have TVDB as primary series scraper, episode's genres will differ from show's genre. I can disable omdb metadata scraping for episodes now, to not get this problem in the future. But how can I get rid of all the old/unnecessary episode genre info?
PenkethBoy 2068 Posted February 6, 2019 Posted February 6, 2019 @@ebr Episode do have genres assigned - i have loads with them - they come with them when scrapped by emby - not manually added and they are displayed in the web app at least and in the episode tab of a TV library - you can filter them by Genre along with a lot of other options - web app again - not looked at ATV to compare

As you can see in the Live TV screenshot, it shows the date and time the episode will air. On the TV episode list screenshot, it shows the same information with a "missing" tag and an air date that is incorrect. Edited February 6, 2019 by Happy2Play removed url
Luke 42081 Posted February 6, 2019 Posted February 6, 2019 Genres and studios should be changed to flow down from series to season to episode. 1 1
ebr 16185 Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 Genres and studios should be changed to flow down from series to season to episode. Then we would have to not import those things for season or episodes and also not allow editing of them there.
PenkethBoy 2068 Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 For me this would be a major issue - taking away features again I want episodes to have the metadata available and that includes genres!
pünktchen 1409 Posted February 7, 2019 Posted February 7, 2019 Genres and studios should be changed to flow down from series to season to episode. What if the studio changes between seasons from lets say ABC to Netflix?
horstepipe 422 Posted February 8, 2019 Author Posted February 8, 2019 For me this would be a major issue - taking away features again I want episodes to have the metadata available and that includes genres! so do you say you want/need different genres for episodes than for their corresponding shows? Or do you just want episodes to have assigned the same genre as their tv show?
PenkethBoy 2068 Posted February 8, 2019 Posted February 8, 2019 I want the Genres that either came from a metadata source - say tvdb or the ones i have assign to stay put - not overridden I.e. dont change them If people want them to be - the same as the Series - thats fine - but there must be away of turning that off Emby should not rewrite/change metadata - unless the user does it manually or specifically tells Emby to do it
