Could Emby Server be preventing my HDD from spinning down?

I am currently running Emby Server on an Odroid HC2 (on top of Openmediavault).

Everything is working perfectly, but for one thing - the hard drive will not spin down.

I am using a 6TB WD Red, which I have been told does not work well with hdparm.  Instead, I was told to disable all spin down options in Openmediavault and apply a firmware update, for the device itself, that sets the spin down timer (I set it as 20 min).

This seems to have worked for everyone except me and the only difference seems to be that I am running Emby Server.

Is it possible that the Server is somehow keeping the hard drive alive by accessing the drive within the 20 minute idle period?

If Emby Server is actively being used, then yes it is possible that it could be accessing image files from your media directories. is that where your images are located?

Thanks Luke.

Yes - I have Emby save everything to my hard drive, along with original video files.

Is it possible that real time monitoring is causing a problem?

I cannot quite tell whether this type of monitoring involves the server literally checking the video folder for new files, every few minutes, or whether it only kicks in when it notes that there has been some sort of system change.

the realtime monitor should not be a problem. Are your images for these videos in the media folders?
