mbguy 40 Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 Emby for Android running on my Android TV box doesn't do refresh rate switching for 24p content, unless an "External Player" is used. But this just kills the Emby experience and most of the time, resume and watched content check are not happening, just really annoying. This is one of the reasons that after trying Emby Premiere for some time I stopped the subscription because out of frustration I have to use Emby for Kodi which is really an inelegant integration (not Emby's fault though). 1. Has anyone figured out how to get Android boxes to do refresh rate switching within Emby? 2. Does such a box exist? 3. If Kodi could manage to do refresh rate switching within its app on the same box, why can't Emby do so? 4. Is Android TV users such a small user base there is no point for Emby developers to provide a solution? I would pay for Emby Premiere immediately if one day the refresh rate switching works within Emby app on Android.
Solution ebr 16184 Posted February 1, 2019 Solution Posted February 1, 2019 Hi. We have had this option working in the app for quite a while. Can you please explain exactly what problem you are having?
aptalca 71 Posted February 1, 2019 Posted February 1, 2019 (edited) I posted about that same issue before. It has to do with the firmware the cheap android tv boxes use. They are too hacky and therefore not compatible with the refresh rate switching methods. Nvidia shield is the ultimate android tv box and although pricey, it does refresh rate switching and the software gets regular updates (unlike the cheap android tv boxes that are forgotten shortly after release) EDIT: kodi may do refresh rate switching because kodi uses its own custom player, not one that the base android tv provides. And trust me, kodi has to come up with specific hacks in their player to make it work with those boxes and sometimes they break. For instance, kodi 17 doesn't do refresh rate switching on a fire tv pendant following a fire tv os update because the update broke kodi's hack in their player. Edited February 1, 2019 by aptalca 1
mbguy 40 Posted February 2, 2019 Author Posted February 2, 2019 thanks @@aptalca, that explains it all. I guess I will stick with my Zidoo X8 (not a cheap box) for a while until the Shield has an update, which should contain all the latest bells and whistles for years to come
bezman 1 Posted February 4, 2019 Posted February 4, 2019 Hello, I have a Shield on 7.2 and the Emby app DOES the rate switching indeed (you can tell because your TV says so [1080/24p] and also because the screen "flickers" black when playing a movie. On the other hand, i could not figure out how to enable the rate switching with either MX Player or VLC..... I could not find a option either in Emby or these players to do so. How did you manage to do so @@mbguy (You seem to mention that you are using 24p with an "External Player")? Thanks,
ShoutingMan 101 Posted February 5, 2019 Posted February 5, 2019 Yep. Nvidia Shield does refresh rate switching.
