Unable to record same series on different channels

If I have multiple streams with the same shows, Emby only allows me to record one series even if I uncheck the 'Don't record episodes that are already in my library' option.

You can see from the pic below that the second recording does not record. It will work setting it to record manually, but there is no way to setup that channel to record all shows (series) when you already have the same show(series) on a different channel set to record.

I may want to do this for insurance in case one stream goes down. I can still get the show.

Currently you'd have to just use one series recording and select all channels.

You should be able to record any channel. When you select All channels it only records one time on the alternate channel.

In the series details there’s a drop down to choose between one specific channel and all channels. Doesn’t that work here? I haven’t tried it

That doesn't work either.

Check future recordings and you will see it didn't stick. When you initially set it, both turn red, but it is not real. Do a refresh.

I tried deleting both channels, then setting one and it did not do both. Do a refresh.

The second one is not set to record. And the schedule only shows one recording per show.

How do I set it to record both channels automatically every day (Series)?

In Live TV I have one m3u (xTeve) and one XML (Emby)

Both channels are set this way

They must have the exact same show id's, in which case Emby thinks they're the same program and it will not scheduled duplicates. You should be able to manually schedule them though.

Yes it works manually. This should be an allowed feature, or at least an option. Wouldn't be an issue if the recordings were reliable, but sometimes the recording ends early. Usually under 10 minutes into the program. I have posted this issue in other threads with logs, but no resolution.

I don't know whether this will be a popular suggestion tbh. I don't know about other countries but in the UK there are no duplicated channels (on Freeview at least), only SD and HD, so this feature would never get used (as it literally can't be), there's also the matter of what to do if both recordings are a success, you'd obviously only want to keep the one.

It sounds like you're requesting a feature as a workaround for an issue that hasn't been resolved yet.

Actually it sounds like, according to @@Luke, it was programmed intentionally that way and not a bug, so a feature request would be the solution.

And yes, I would only keep one. And I would only need it for a couple of live shows that are not repeated.

Programmed intentionally to end recordings early? Or to not duplicate recordings? If the latter then yes this is a sensible decision imo, if a recording fails for whatever reason it's better for devs to get to the root cause of that issue than to create a workaround for it.

I know you'd only keep one, but which one would Emby keep? What if one ended too early and the other didn't? How would Emby know the correct duration of the TV program and, if it already knows this, why is it getting it wrong when recording it in the first place?

I wouldn't expect Emby to make that decision. I would manually delete the unwanted recording.

The issue of one of a dual recording ending early may not be Emby's fault because that happens where I also have NPVR recording and Emby may be ending it's recording because it sees the one from NPVR in the library.

But I still have stand alone recordings ending early.

No, it won't and an active recording due to something in the library. That's not correct.

Ok, then something else is ending the recordings. I did get a hint yesterday when I noticed that the recordings are set to start 3 minutes early and ending at the top of the hour just like the live TV streams are doing almost every hour..

Ok that's getting off topic and I see you opened a new thread about it so we'll discuss it there. Thanks.
