borisx 0 Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 Hi I have been running Emby on a separate Windows 10 Pro PC, have been running it for about a year now. I started using it after the Folders option was added. This new version is badly broken (the errors according to blogs seem endless). 1. The DLNA server is not automatically displayed on my new LG TV, even though it is running. The only fix is to restart the service. If I close the TV and try again, the server is not visible. Changing the shout frequency does not help. The only thing that does is to restart the emby service. 2. If i watch something, and then use my TV controller to skip out of the video to the main list of videos, the server disappears, drops me out. I have to restart the service for it to reappear. 3. The Folder option has been removed, meaning any files (including my entire music collection which has no metadata, but is ordered in a structured way), is messed up. There is no clean way to look at the folders via the menu as they are in the hard drive, meaning its useless as is. I don't know what kind of mind set your developers have, but shouldn't any default DLNA service offer to deliver the media in the way it is initially structured, and not try and beautify it by ordering it in mindless ways? This product has some potential, but the biggest problems clearly are with feature management and quality control (and hubris of the developers). Some cowboy has the reins and its to the detriment of this product. Sorry guys am dropping support, wish you luck - you need it.
ebr 16190 Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 Hi. We're sorry you've had a bad experience with this update. The "Folders" option is still there, it has just moved to a tab within the libraries themselves instead of a main library option. Emby is not really designed to be just a straight file-based explorer for content but, rather, a system that can intelligently organize and present your media to different devices based on metadata. That is how most people use it and is the primary focus of development and features. However, we do still try to support the more "plain Jane" presentation as much as possible but we also do recognize we fell down on that somewhat in this release. We had a very long and grueling beta cycle for this release but, unfortunately, none of our beta testers were using some of these types of structures or features. We are working hard to correct the issues as soon as possible. Thanks. 2
borisx 0 Posted January 24, 2019 Author Posted January 24, 2019 Hi Chief Bottle Washer Thanks for your reply. If you can provide instructions on where the Folder option is, within the Libraries that would be great.
ebr 16190 Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 Hi. What app are you using? In the web app, it is the last tab at the top.
borisx 0 Posted January 24, 2019 Author Posted January 24, 2019 Emby, for Windows 10. Its running as a web page on a pc, providing a DLNA service to my network. Inside each library (under Manage Library), there are the normal media source selections. On the top level, where i can see all the separate libraries, the right most is Advanced, under which there are no Folder options
ebr 16190 Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 Hi. I'm talking about the user interface, not the configuration one. So you are only using Emby as a DLNA server?
borisx 0 Posted January 24, 2019 Author Posted January 24, 2019 The user interface on my tv (LG 2018 model) shows a coloured square for each Library i've configured. There also used to be a Folders square at this level (before v4), which by-passed all the meta-data configured views, so i could drill down to an album, e.g. Music_A_M\B\Beck\Mutations This option no longer exists. Under each library are, Latest, Playlists, Albums, Album Artists, Artists, Songs, Genres, Favourite Artists, Fav Albums, Fav Songs All are full of gibberish (random songs pulled from all over the place) or empty
borisx 0 Posted January 24, 2019 Author Posted January 24, 2019 Emby is being used as a DLNA server, yes.
ebr 16190 Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 Okay, the pure DLNA interface just doesn't have the folders option yet.
Luke 42085 Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 We'll add the folders tab to dlna. Thanks.
borisx 0 Posted January 24, 2019 Author Posted January 24, 2019 Please also investigate the DLNA service dropping out. This is new to v4, never had a problem with 3.x
