I have been fooling with 4.0 since it was released. NOTHING works correctly. And server crashes 10-12 x a day.

I have tried everything short of rolling it back (which seems iffy anyway) and no go.

Well, server just crashed, again. How do I know? Lost it from my other machine, and now it just hunts (big revoving circle and no access to ANYTHING).

I just went to premier the day before the update, as everything was fine and I was happy. Now, I am canceling my premier autopay and moving on.

Sorrt guys, while I am not a noob, this is beyond me.

have you tried installing 4.0.1?

Have you posted other topics to try and get help? This looks like your first post, so not sure how anyone is supposed to help you fix your problem when you don't give the devs what they need.

I have been using 4.0 since it was released and have had exactly 0 problems, so clearly there is something in your setup that is throwing things out of whack. If you want help, post details/logs so the devs can help you, if you are just posting to say goodbye, then that seems pretty pointless to me (if you're going to move on, just move on), but you do you.

good luck.

From looking at the forum, clearly there are issues with v4 but vs the total number of Emby installs, this must be a tiny percentage.  As above, on both my Dev and Prod Emby installs I had zero issues upgrading and everything is 100% as it was before (but a lot faster) ..

Give the Dev team (and us) a chance to help you (by providing logs, or more info) - if they can't sort it in a reasonable time frame - then fair enough.

Maybe theres nothing to post about until the version hes on finishes scanning? maybe he doesnt have time to sit watching over the the server. maybe he is reading other posts trying to piece together similar troubles and suggestions from those threads? people always say search before posting and take for granted that some people actually do just that.

when stuff crashes constantly and you are unable to troubleshoot beyond a click or two it can seem pointless. so instead of rousing the guy in his time of frustration I am going to either keep quiet or offer a positive suggestion.

Where did I say search before posting?

All I said was that posting about your problems without providing any specifics on your setup/issues, and no corresponding logs, is going to get no help from the devs. We don't know what version the OP is on, what OS version they are using, what library types aren't working, what is happening that corresponds with a server crash, etc.

There is lots of information that can be provided that would take the same or less time than posting a complaint on the forum....

here we go again... lol.

I didnt say you told him to search. I said people (in general) say that and he could very well searched before giving up.

we do know what version he is on, v4.0, but maybe not the latest which is why instead of telling the guy to go do him I offer to help. Ive been there, frustrated that everything is fine the day before, or the last six months and it all goes to hell and you cant do anything except click to one menu and it crashes. no way to get a log no way to do anything. then you read that you need to let emby update and be patient. Im not saying this is the case here but a little understanding would be more helpful.

while im mentioning it, the “my system works fine and havent had issues with v4” posts are even more irritating then just keeping quiet. Seriously, no one is coming here to complain for nothing. there is CLEARLY issues with v4. Very obvious issues too, not some random little bug, not some simple unique anomaly with a single users configuration or hardware, but substantial issues. We all use Emby for its capabilities, not the issues it causes with every bleeping update. when a user spends hours and hours on Terabytes of content and then an update seemingly completely destroys all of that its not a good feeling. This happens on every update.

When supporting a developer by purchasing the Premiere, understand its to say thank you, show that their work is valuable and encourage further development. when that work breaks and you just parted with money many people feel slighted. Understandable, especially when these issues had to have been reported with testers over the past six months. Theres no way issues like metadata not being able to ignore the year in movie titles when fetching data on that movie, or the other dozen issues reported were only ever seen after the v4 update was released to the public.

What you fail to understand is, I don't have time to develop this for you. For the Devs, this is their job, probably their life. It's not for me. And like the 3.05 version, buggy as hell. At least with that one, it only took 2-3 days to get it right.

All I can say is that this worked fine under the 3.07 version (which by the way, took 2-3 days to get right). I thought I had learned my lesson, and turned off auto update. And then could watch this forum to see what problems were being discovered, first.

But, after being satisfied enough to pop for Premium (after almost two years), I mistakenly updated when 4.0 came out. And yes, I am running 4.1, now. Made very little difference.

So again, I give up, and if you don't like that, tough it out, I don't care. It's obvious with ALL the complaints (and so called fixes) on this forum about 4.0, I am not the only guy having problems. And after 5 days of trying the "fixes" I have seen here, I give up. I have other things to do.

And I have seen that you are about to release ANOTHER "fix"/update, so don't assume I haven't seen EVERY post on the problems with this. And I have every problem noted, plus a few. And the "fixes" haven't helped. I have even uninstalled emby completely on two machines, reinstalled, and get the same problems.

Hey, if you guys get it right, I'll e watching, but back to Boxee. I have to convert every10 bit vid (reason I went to emby in the 1st place), but it works.

Here is my latest log. It crashed again. All I did was restart the server, nothing else. it gets to 88-89 % scan, then crashes, everytime. this scan was initiated by the server, not me.

and here,it started a scan, then it popped up,program stopped working, close app or check online for a solution. This is a windows error note.

is there anything in windows event viewer about it?

Just a guess, but are you seeing any disk issues in event viewer as well?  If it seems to be crashing around the same time it could be trying to read from bad sectors??

1. It crashes on a different machine, too, so it can't be a drive problem.

.And that image problem? I deleted that library and no longer have it in my Library. It still crashes.

When you guys release another version, let me know. I have no more time to waste on a broken program. I am fixing my own.

It is a matter of figuring out what Emby is choking on from Your Library, as this does not effect everyone.

Probably something more to do with your setup, as I am running the same version (and went through all of the 80+ beta iterations), as are many others, including the people that have posted in this thread, without any issues,

I am fixing my own.

Let us know when it's ready and we'll beta test it for you ;)

Yes and make sure you have external metadata!

I had a time when some previous version of the emby server was crashing.

I removed Emby and also removed the emby-server folder from appdata and then re-installed emby.

After setting up again and rebuilding my metadata, I've had no problems. Plus emby was more responsive after the clean install.

Sometimes updating from one version to another can have unintended consequences with leftovers that can cause problems or issues that were ignored in previous versions.

I have only had to do this once and since the rebuild, more than a year ago, emby has been quite stable.

If you'd like to try the beta server, the crashing may be resolved there. Thanks.
