jon_ 27 Posted January 21, 2019 Posted January 21, 2019 Hi Would it be possible to split the Transcoding settings into two sections - one for 'live' transcoding (for on the fly conversion for unsupported video/audio formats or bitrate reduction), and the other for 'background' transcoding, for sync jobs for offline viewing, or for pre-transcoding files to avoid having to do 'live' transcoding. My reasoning is as follows: For live transcoding - speed is the key requirement. The transcoder needs to encode fast enough to support the required number of concurrent streams, possibly at the expense of picture quality. GPU based acceleration may give more concurrent transcodes at the expense of quality. You may want to choose a faster H.264 encoding preset. For background transcoding - in most cases transcoding speed isn't an issue, so you can use a higher quality preset to give better video quality/smaller file sizes. You may also want to choose higher quality CPU encoding over GPU encoding, and choose a slower H.264 encoding preset. It would also be great if the background transcoding offered more choices than just a bit rate - eg. rescale video to 'x' resolution, downmix surround to 2ch etc etc rather than the somewhat vague 'TV / Mobile' presets. 2
