Scan Media Library hangs @ 92.1% for about an hour every scan

I did not want to jump to any conclusions right away on the media scan thing - because I know in previous builds it took a while for everything to even out (or ultimately having to delete the library.db) for Emby to operate smoothly.

This update , I am seeing my scan media hang at 92.1% for about an hour each run. There are no errors in the log, I have it on verbose. What I am getting is this message over and over again; for the same duration that the scan continues to hang. Any ideas?

I'm having similar time issues with library rescans, where it will sit at 90% for a very long time before finding any of the new files I've added and then it never seems to identify them itself and I have to manually do it.

 

Is there something I should look for in the log indicating scan start/progress? The log has urls/usernames in it so I figure best not to post?

In the log you PM'd me there's no evidence of a hung library scan. It completed in 25 minutes.

Well prior to v4, when I put 10 new files into a library folder and hit refresh, it would jump to 90% immediately, find the new files, and then identify the new titles.  Now with v4 I add the files, hit refresh, and it takes minutes before it even shows the initial 90% on the scanning circle, it doesn't show a scan is occurring in the dashboard at all, and then 25 minutes later it shows me 10 new titles that it hasn't identified at all.

 

it might not be hung but it's gone from a minute or two and finding titles to 25 minutes and not finding titles.

Before the upgrade the library scan would start and finish with out any problems and you could see it reached 100%, Since the upgrade in running tasks you see "Scan media library" and it seems normal until it reaches 90+% there it slows to a crawl. I've never seen it finish because i fall a sleep from boredom looking at the progress bar lol.

 

I've attached my log and hope there is some way to resolve this, my ocd is killing me heheheLog.txt

 

I noticed now that i added a few movies that it's not getting the meta and images automaticaly like it used to, i've had to manualy identify and select each one

Let's say I have 5 files:

1.mkv through 5.mkv

 

Prior to v4, I would move those mkv's into a folder that was part of my movies library, and then I'd load the emby webpage and hit the ... on the movies library, and tell it to refresh metadata, choosing to scan for new and updated files.  A couple minutes later it would be done, having found the 1.mkv through 5.mkv, identified them by their filenames, and found art for them.  I'd confirm they were found successfully by checking the recently added movies page.

 

After v4, I put those files in the folder, and when I tell it to scan it takes forever.  When it's finally done it's added 1.mkv, 2.mkv, 3.mkv, 4.mkv, 5.mkv to movies, except there's no info for them, no art, the titles are just the filenames, and the posters are blank colored squares.  If I manually identify them it works on an individual basis.

How are things today?

Hi there, try disabling subtitle downloading and that should help get your scan done faster. You can then turn it back on afterwards if desired. thanks.

I tried it and no change what so ever, i shutdown the server and i'm restructuring the movies folder to see if that helps. You can setup Filebot to create the folders for you.  You can drag a bunch of movies into FileBot at a time to cut down on time or if you can create batch files then you could script it to process everything and walk away (more or less).

 

Point being you don't/shouldn't need to do it movie by movie with FileBot.

Based on your log it would definitely make a difference because a large portion of it was subtitle downloading attempts.

Not sure if this will help or not.   But in the logs it shows a v6  ip  ::1

 

I had a similar issue with my Synology version of Emby never seeming to finish.   See here:  https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/68185-4002-seems-to-never-finish-scan-of-library-now/

 

Was asked to disable v6 on my Synology and once I did that, the scan finished without issues.   Just mentioning it in case it's a similar thing with your setup.

I think we need to break it down for a specific example on one item, and what your are seeing (screenshots) with a log file for that example.

After the huge ordeal of restructuring my movies into separate folders within one root movies folder the scan did finish properly at last but it took much longer than it used to with server version 3x.

Also i've been noticing that every time the server restarts i get the database upgrade message for the first few minutes in localhost:8096 .... i am running it as a service i created with nssm.

 

I attached my new log file and i hope my troubles helped someone else.
